The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and reliable candidate to head our Premises team. Tasked with ensuring the School building and its facilities are maintained to the highest standard, you will ensure that the environment is safe, secure and operational for students, staff, community users and visitors, at all times.

As a School Site Supervisor, you will be hands-on and with a calm sense of efficiency and organisation, together with the ability to solve problems. In ensuring the School is a clean, attractive and secure place to be, you will prioritise the educational, safety and welfare needs of our students.

You will ideally have experience of premises or facilities work, be aware of maintenance programmes and Health & Safety compliance, and always carry out your work to a consistently high standard.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Building and Site Maintenance

  • To work as part of a team to ensure the School environment is optimised for learning
  • To be responsible for a regular schedule of inspections and action plans for any modifications or improvements throughout the building, alerting the Estate Services & Compliance Officer of any work that needs to be undertaken, or any issues where health and safety is at risk. This includes lighting, ventilation, time keeping, fire-fighting equipment, security and heating systems.
  • To undertake regular inspections of the site and propose solutions for any defects identified
  • To undertake routine maintenance or minor refurbishment of premises, fixtures and fittings as reasonably required and within the limits of the job holders capabilities
  • To undertake regular maintenance of the School grounds ensuring that surfaced areas are safe, free from rubbish and debris and treated accordingly in icy conditions
  • To maintain a programme of planned preventative maintenance to ensure statutory and legal compliance, as well as best practice
  • Record all repairs and keep a maintenance log of routine and non-routine tasks
  • To carry out and record routine tests and checks on mechanical, electrical and security installations as necessary, ensuring any defects are reported
  • To liaise with, record and monitor external contractors as necessary, ensuring any work is done satisfactorily and maintain the contractor call out log
  • To facilitate requests from colleagues for site support
  • To supervise contractors where appropriate, regarding access to the site. Monitor and log the progress of the work and ensure that it is carried out to the required standard
  • To monitor, prioritise and allocate jobs logged on the internal ticketing system
  • Meet on a regular basis with the Estate Services & Compliance Officer, give advice, and make recommendations for improvements

Cleaning

  • To liaise with the appointed contract cleaning company as required, giving effective direction to ensure the School is cleaned to a high standard and to required specification
  • To be part of the team responsible for general cleanliness and tidiness of the School grounds
  • Undertake emergency cleaning duties that may occur during the School day to ensure the site is safe and presentable
  • To monitor and replace consumable items used by cleaning staff in the course of their duties

Health, Safety and Security

  • To contribute to the assurance of absolute safety of all students on and off site
  • To comply with the school’s responsibilities and liabilities under Health and Safety Legislation
  • To support the Estate Services & Compliance Officer in the review and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures, as well as ensure Health and Safety compliance
  • To ensure the premises management related activities are suitably risk assessed
  • To be responsible for ensuring the school is open and closed safely and securely
  • To respond to emergencies when necessary in respect of accident, failure, break-in, vandalism or bad weather
  • To immediately, inform the Estate Services & Compliance Officer of any concerns about the quality of work or behaviour of any contractor on premises related activities, or any serious issue affecting the immediate safety of students, staff or visitors
  • To patrol the site to check for hazards, damages and intruders when opening and closing, and to record any actions
  • To ensure the proper use and storage of all tools and equipment
  • To ensure that all alarm systems are functioning correctly and that regular checks are made of the systems and recorded
  • To maintain and keep accurate records of all site allocated and master keys
  • To alert the Estate Services & Compliance Officer and Senior Leadership Team of any risk to a breach of security and deal with any incident affecting security as directed

Deliveries

  • Undertake any necessary delivery duties in line with correct handling policies
  • Manage and assist with all deliveries, ensuring the correct storage and distribution of all goods, after the administration staff have checked the goods – and deal with deliveries outwards
  • Move furniture, equipment, plant, supplies and stores in accordance with current health and safety standards if required

Overall

  • You will be responsible for the general maintenance, cleanliness and security of the School and to maintain the premises (both internally and externally) in a clean, safe, sound and secure condition for staff, pupils, parents and community users
  • You will maintain all logs and appropriate records and actions in accordance with procedures
  • You will work as part of a team and form good relationships with other colleagues
  • You will maintain confidentiality over matters relating to the School, students, staff or parents
  • You will respond in a courteous manner to enquiries from the School community and external visitors as appropriate
  • You will actively participate in any appropriate training when required
  • You will work in accordance with the School’s values, culture, ethos, equalities and inclusion policies

  • You will be passionate about ensuring the school environment is exemplary
  • You will have the skills to work practically, such as painting and small maintenance jobs
  • You will build positive relationships with a wide variety of people including contractors
  • You will understand the importance of health and safety in a school
  • You will have a commitment to developing your own skills

The Details

Salary: £28,000 - £32,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Contract: Full-time and Permanent

Working hours: 40 hours per week - shift hours covering hours from 6.00am to 9.00pm (some weekend opening, closing will be required with prior notice given); across 5 days, 52 weeks per year

Holiday entitlement: 25 days per annum to be taken in the school holidays
