As part of Bordesley MAT, Birchensale Middle School works closely with Trinity High School, Woodfield Academy and Holyoakes Field First School in a very localised MAT focusing on the development of children in Redditch. Working together as part of the three-tier system we aspire to improve the educational offer for the local community.
Birchensale Middle School is a popular 5-form entry middle school with pupils on roll aged 9-13 years old. We are a happy, vibrant learning community, with high aspirations for the children in our care and the staff team that supports them.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Assistant to join our Year Team. This role is central to ensuring that every pupil feels safe, supported and able to thrive. Working closely with the Head of Year and Deputy Year Team Leader, you will play a key part in delivering high quality pastoral care and creating a positive, inclusive environment for all pupils in the year group.
Key responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day pastoral support, acting as a calm and approachable presence for pupils
Support attendance monitoring, including following up on absences and liaising with families
Build positive, trusted relationships with pupils to identify emerging pastoral needs
Deliver planned cover lessons when required, and maintain a positive, structured classroom environment
Skills and Qualifications:
GCSE in Maths and English (Grade 4 and above)
Relevant Level 3 qualification (TA, supporting teaching and learning etc.)
Understanding of health and wellbeing, safety and child protection
Understanding of the schools ethos and values
Awareness of Data Protection and confidentiality
High standards of attendance and punctuality
Excellent organisation
