JOB PURPOSE

The Deputy Head of Middle and Senior School is accountable to the Head of School for undertaking roles in three broad areas: Organisation and management, educational leadership, and the promotion of a positive School climate, including the welfare of staff and students.

The Deputy Head will work closely with the Head of School to promote the effective management, development, provision and evaluation of the School's human, physical and financial resources to provide quality education programs for students. The Deputy Head will also assist the Head of School to lead a team of senior academic staff, teachers and support staff in the design, delivery and review of a high-quality Australian Curriculum experience.

The position will entail classroom contact that may cover such involvements as collegiate support, peer coaching and relief teaching, and may carry a teaching load up to a maximum 0.2 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) if necessary. It will also require some meetings by negotiation during Term Breaks as a member of the School Leadership Team.


KEY RESULTS AREAS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Facilitate and manage daily operations and organisation, relief teachers and scheduling for the Middle and Senior Schools. 

  2. Effective management of designated Middle/Senior School events eg. School photos, Parent / Teacher / Student Learning Conferences, Subject Selection Evenings, Examinations, and others designated by the HOS Middle/Senior School

  3. Create and manage the timetable for the Middle and Senior Schools, in collaboration with the Head of Middle/Senior School and Deputy Head of Junior School.

  4. Manage and guide staff involved in delivering pastoral and advisory programs, including school camps and other activities.

  5. Oversee the pastoral and advisory program through the guidance and management of Year Level Coordinators.

  6. Assist the Head of School with the behavioural management and pastoral care of Middle/Senior School students. 

  7. Manage the Middle/Senior School Subject Selection process and also the Academic Review program.

  8. Provide feedback and coaching to staff leading to high level learning outcomes for all students and assist with staff appraisal. 

  9. Maintain and enforce the Assessment and Reporting Guidelines for the Middle/Senior School.

  10. Contribute to marketing and student recruitment initiatives. 

  11. Assist the Head of School to conduct enrolment interviews, where required.

  12. Manage budgets relevant to coordination responsibilities.

  13. As a member of the School Senior Leadership Team, contribute to improvements in operations and strategic direction of the School. 

  14. Assist the Head of School to oversee processes to ensure effective parent communication and relationships with the School.

  15. Other responsibilities as directed by the Head of School or Principal.

  4. Current knowledge of Australian Curriculum requirements and compliance.

  5. Current knowledge of New South Wales Higher School Certificate requirements (preferred, but not necessary).

  6. High level ICT and data analysis skills.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor degree or equivalent in Education.

  2. Post-graduate studies in Educational Leadership or Educational Management (desired).

  3. Eligibility for teacher registration in home country.


EXPERIENCE

  1. Significant experience teaching and leading in Middle and Senior School settings.

  2. Minimum of 10 years teaching experience in a relevant educational setting

  3. Minimum of 3 years as a head of faculty.
