St Julian’s School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Primary Teaching Assistant (TA) to join our vibrant team. You will work alongside a class teacher to provide a positive and nurturing learning environment that supports the needs of all students.

Initially, from April to June, the successful candidate will work within our Nursery setting. Following this period, there is the opportunity to transition into working with older children within the Primary School, depending on the evolving needs of our students and the school.

Founded in 1932, we are a highly successful, non-selective 3-18 British international school with a reputation for academic excellence. We currently have just over 1,200 students from over 60 different nationalities. The School has three sections: Primary, Secondary, and Portuguese. The Primary Section has 480 pupils with three classes per year. The Secondary Section is four-form entry and has 630 students. The Portuguese Section has 140 students from 1º to 9º Ano one class per year.


Responsibilities:


  • In-Class Support:

    • Collaborate with teachers to establish routines and expectations.

    • Support the teacher with individual student learning needs.

    • Assist the teachers to implement differentiated lesson plans.

    • Assist with creating engaging learning resources and displays.

    • Build rapport with students and promote their well-being.

    • Utilise effective support strategies to foster student independence.

    • Provide in-class access arrangements (e.g., reading, scribing).

    • Pre-teach or re-teach concepts as needed to small groups.

    • Assist teachers in monitoring progress and achievements.

    • Cover the class for short absences (up to 3 days) with support

  • Communication and Technology:

    • Possess excellent written and verbal English language skills.

    • Utilise ICT tools effectively to enhance learning activities and develop student proficiency.

From Nursery (age 3+) to Year 11 (age 16+) St. Julian’s broadly follows the National Curriculum for England. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) embraces the two years of Nursery and Reception, ages three to five. Thereafter students progress through the Key Stages of the curriculum.

The Secondary section strives to nurture in each student a sense of self-confidence and happiness; students are encouraged to speak up for themselves and relationships between teachers and students are very positive, engaging and stimulating. At the end of Key Stage 4, students take a series of public examinations (GCSE and IGCSEs).

After age 16, St. Julian’s prepares students for university by offering courses leading to the International Baccalaureate Diploma. St. Julian’s consistently achieves strong results.
