Job overview

Role

This is a new position at GES, made necessary by our growth towards an all-through school (3 – 18). For September 2020, we foresee the need for technical assistance in Science and Art & Design at the Secondary school. This role will be for one year in the first instance and for the right candidate we would be ready to consider either a part-time (80%) or full-time role. The Technician will work for the Head of Secondary Science and the Head of Secondary Art and Design, and his/her time will mostly be spent in science with a few hours in art. An interest in science is important for this role. As the School grows and expands, the role will evolve, subject to review.

Science and Art & Design at GES

Our approach to Science is active and ‘hands-on’, rooted in the belief that curiosity about the natural world, insight into how the world and the universe work, and appreciation of the relevance of scientific exploration to everyday life are what provide the motivation to discover and to learn. We use an enquiry-based approach that encourages questioning, experimentation, and an understanding of the way in which scientific concepts and methods link different disciplines and subject areas together.

We have a well-equipped, high-specification laboratory with an adjacent preparation room. For September 2021, we will need to provide a second laboratory, and further spaces will be needed as the School grows.

In Art and Design, pupils are encouraged to explore and develop their skills across a range of disciplines – including but not limited to painting, drawing, printmaking and textile design – creating a portfolio of work that demonstrates both the creative process and ability in a variety of techniques. By studying the work of artists, designers and craftspeople, pupils develop their understanding of visual expression and communication and find inspiration for their own work.

We are open to seeing what you can offer!

About Geneva English School

Geneva English School provides a high-quality, innovative and holistic education. The primary section of the school was founded in 1961 and has been on the present site since 1989. In September 2016, GES Secondary was launched and in September 2017 it opened the doors to its new state-of-the-art campus in Versoix. The Secondary is growing organically, year on year, and in September 2020 there will be classes in Years 7 - 11 (ages 11 - 16). In Key Stage 4 (14 - 16) we offer a broad range of GCSE and IGCSE courses, which will be followed by an innovative Key Stage 5 (16 - 18) diploma programme based on A-Levels..

At GES, our commitment is to provide an education that is unsurpassed in Europe. We take the traditions and strengths of the British system with its emphasis on in-depth learning and a broad co-curricular programme and combine them with the best elements of international programmes. We offer a truly interconnected curriculum with interdisciplinary and extended projects, and the development of attributes and key skills appropriate to life in the 21st Century. Our approach is open, innovative and outward looking.

Geneva is an exciting cosmopolitan centre – the hub of Europe. The skiing season provides many opportunities for winter sports, and outdoor pursuits are very popular in the other seasons. The cost of living is high but this will be reflected in salary offers. Many people rent apartments and housing in Switzerland and also in neighbouring France (10 minutes from the school). The primary school is in Genthod, a commune on the north side of Lac Léman, approximately 10 minutes from Geneva Airport. The southerly view from the school takes in the lake and the Alps, including Mont Blanc. The secondary school is 7 minutes away in Versoix, a town with excellent transport links to Geneva city centre.

If you would like to join a confident team of professionals putting children at the centre of the school’s focus within a dynamic, collaborative environment, please send us your application!
