Job overview

If you have a passion for Science or Maths (as appropriate) and a gift for inspiring young minds, we are looking for you.  We are seeking an additional Science and/or Maths Teacher to be based in our Upper School, which covers Years 5-8, to work with our Head of Department. This is a maternity cover role and the incumbent is expected to return in September 2022.

While this role is advertised as starting in January, we do have the flexibility for an immediate start if that would suit the successful candidate.

You must have an excellent understanding of the National Curriculum for Science/Maths and have some experience teaching Science/Maths from Year 5 to Year 8 but you may come from a senior school model. Ideally you will have some knowledge of the Pre Senior Baccalaureate (PSB) ethos and framework. You must be passionate about developing engaging and innovative lessons which allow our students to grow academically, socially and emotionally. The ability to offer an additional subject will be seen as an advantage.

You will be a naturally sociable person who comfortably works in collaboration with all. A willingness to contribute to the extra-curricular programme and support the pastoral life of our school is essential.

You will have the opportunity to become a central part of our diverse, enthusiastic and energetic family. We highly value our reputation as an excellent employer, and the successful candidate will benefit from a Contributory Pension Scheme, free and delicious lunch and snacks during term time, free staff parking, Cycle to Work scheme, all the benefits of our 'Bishopsgate Elevate' wellbeing programme, use of the beautiful new swimming pool, and the opportunity to grow and develop professional skills and qualifications.

The School reserves the right to make an appointment before the closing date, so applicants are encouraged to apply immediately as this job may be withdrawn at any point without notice. In any event, the closing date for applications is 31st October 2021 and interviews will take place in week beginning 1st November.

Bishopsgate School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The safeguarding responsibilities of the post include:

  • teaching, caring for, supervising and taking responsibility for the wellbeing of children
  • promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact
  • adhering to and ensuring compliance with the School’s Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy at all times
  • the ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people

This role constitutes regulated activity.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
