Job overview
The role co-ordinates the use of practical resources and facilities and to provide assistance and advice in meeting the practical needs of the science curriculum, under the guidance of Science teachers and Director of Science.
The ideal candidate will be organised, be able to work using their own initiative and should be able to demonstrate:
Knowledge and/or experience of practical Science and laboratory safety
Excellent record keeping ability and attention to detail
Proficient in the use of ICT
Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
Preparing and setting up practicals and providing support if needed
Being aware of health and safety procedures and being aware of safe laboratory practice (e.g. use of CLEAPSS)
Keeping accurate records of expenditure
Organising books and equipment
Working with chemicals to make up solutions
Completing annual stock take of all equipment in the department at the end of academic year
Submitting orders for consumable goods/ acquiring equipment
Assisting general admin tasks for science department
Maintaining equipment in science department
Risk assessment of technician work
Safe waste disposal management
Working with teachers to keep labs and prep room tidy
Genuine interest in providing an environment in which pupils can excel
Ability to recognise and develop opportunities within the role and the department
Degree in sciences (Bio/Chem/Phys related) or lab technician/lab experience
The role involves maintaining a safe environment while preparing equipment, chemicals and materials for school science lessons.
Experience of working in a laboratory or Science related environment preferred.
