Role Overview:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Science teacher who can deliver engaging and inspiring lessons across a range of age groups and abilities. The successful candidate will be passionate about the subject, confident in delivering high-quality lessons in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, and committed to fostering scientific curiosity and academic excellence.
This is a rewarding opportunity for an individual ready to play a key role in shaping the scientific understanding and aspirations of our pupils within a supportive and collaborative school environment.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver high-quality science lessons across Key Stages, ensuring lessons are differentiated and inclusive.
- Teach general science to a range of year groups, with the ability to focus on areas of subject specialism (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics).
- Prepare pupils for internal assessments and external exams, including IGCSE Double and Triple Award.
- Foster a love of science through weekly practical investigations, interactive activities, and real-world applications.
- Contribute to the wider academic and co-curricular life of the school, including science clubs, trips, or competitions.
- Build strong, supportive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues to encourage progress and engagement.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Recognised teaching qualification (QTS preferred).
- Strong academic background in a science subject (degree level).
- Experience teaching science at prep or secondary level; GCSE experience is essential, Cambridge IGCSE experience is highly desirable.
- Sound knowledge of science curricula and assessment methods (Cambridge Curriculum desirable).

- Deliver creative and engaging lessons that promote scientific inquiry and critical thinking.

- Contribute positively to the wider school community and embody the values of Polwhele House. Experience as a D of E Supervisor is highly desirable.
- Show commitment to professional growth and reflectiveness in their practice.

About Polwhele House School
Polwhele House is a co-educational, independent, day school in Truro, Cornwall. Founded in 1976 as Boscawen Rose School for pupils aged 2 to 8, the school moved to its present site in 1981, when it extended the age range to 13. Since then the school has grown further and moving towards GCSE in 2027. Polwhele House School welcomed its first Year 9 class in September 2024.
Polwhele House is based in a historic manor house, within 32 acres of gardens, playing fields, park, and woodland.
