About Penair School
Penair School is a mixed, comprehensive, non-denominational secondary school without sixth form situated in Truro, Cornwall. It converted to academy status in April 2011 and is supported by a single-academy trust called the Penair School Trust.
A larger than average secondary school, Penair School provides 1,200 places for students between the ages of 11 and 16 when fully subscribed.
Penair School is named after Penair House, a late 18th-century mansion built by Rear Admiral Robert Carthew Reynolds. The school was opened by the Prince of Wales in May 1980.

Values and vision
Penair School goes by the slogan “Disce ut Vivas”, or “Live to learn”. It aims to build on each student’s potential, creating a culture of high achievement where each child is valued for their individual strengths and is able to achieve to the very best of their ability. As well as developing its pupils academically, Penair teaches them how to grow socially and personally, while instilling the importance of British values.
Ofsted report
“The school provides a broad and balanced curriculum which enables students to understand the fundamental British values of democracy and show respect and tolerance to those of different faiths and beliefs. The headteacher and some of the other newly appointed leaders have put policies and plans in place that are starting to show signs of impact, especially in areas such as English and literacy. The students behave well and show respect and courtesy to each other and to adults at all times.”
