Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Science Teacher to join a successful and motivated department in our school. Our forward-thinking Faculty takes a collaborative and supportive approach to the development of its staff. As part of this professional and dedicated team you will be instrumental in inspiring and motivating our students, and in continuing to raise standards. Interested candidates are invited to visit the school before making an application. This post is suitable for an ECT.

The successful candidate will be joining a tight-knit community; the turnover at GCA is consistently low and the well-being of our staff is important to us. We aim to support staff to achieve a sensible work-life balance. All staff are different and supporting them requires an individual approach.

The personal development of all our staff is highly valued at GCA and we offer the opportunity to apply for our Learning Award of up to £2,400 per year for your continued professional development or other skills and talents. This is in addition to the school’s ongoing CPD programme. Other benefits staff can opt into include a cycle to work scheme and an interest-free annual season ticket loan.

Staff at the Academy collaborate and support each other by sharing good practice and taking a team approach with a focus on collective responsibility. Paul Sutton, our Principal, encourages teachers to have an impact beyond their subject and he is always available and happy to discuss ideas with you as to how this can be achieved. We have an impressive range of extra-curricular activities and all our staff are involved in running at least one.

Why not pay us a visit and find out more? Contact Viv Oxley by email at voxley@greigcityacademy.co.uk or by calling 020 8609 0100, we will try to find a time that works best for you.

The Science Faculty at Greig City Academy:

This is a great time to be joining the GCA Science Faculty. Science is a highly regarded subject within the school: science results have significantly improved and there is a real buzz of enthusiasm throughout the faculty. The Science Faculty is a highly motivated team striving for excellence, with high expectations of both pupils and staff. Students are encouraged to think for themselves giving them the opportunity to make sense of the work around them.

GCA is a successful STEM school and the Science Faculty drive forward innovative teaching practices, placing high value on practical work. A range of well attended extra-curricular activities for students at lunchtime and after school - for example our KS3 science club and KS4 raising achievement sessions - are offered.

The Faculty comprises Biology, Chemistry and Physics; it has a suite of ten modern, large and well-equipped purpose-built laboratories housing a team of thirteen Science teachers and two technicians.

We are committed to the principle of equal opportunities; we welcome all applicants and value the diversity they bring.

Greig City Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we have safer recruitment procedures in place for the selection of staff. Successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check and additional pre-employment checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance.

NOTE: It is an offence to apply for a role if the person is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. (Legislation.gov.uk – section 7(1)(a) of the SVGA 2006)

In line with KCSIE updates, an online search will be conducted as part of our due diligence checks on shortlisted candidates.

Please download the application form from the school's website and email your completed application together with supporting statement, self-declaration and equal opportunities monitoring form to voxley@greigcityacademy.co.uk.

The closing date for receiving completed application forms is 5pm on Monday 20th February 2023.

We reserve the right to close or extend this position depending on application numbers, therefore we would urge candidates to submit an application at their earliest opportunity.
