Teacher of Science.

  • Are you passionate about your subject and driven to support pupils to reach their full potential?

  • Do you want to work in a Trust where all colleagues answered either ‘strongly agree’ (97%) or ‘agree’ (3%) to the question ‘I am proud to be a member of staff’?

If you are the ambitious and committed professional we are looking for, please note our staff retention rate has remained static at 96% for three years and there is a reason for this: we offer an exceptionally rewarding place to work due to the amazing progress our pupils make socially, emotionally and academically. Our provision also allows for the real work-life balance offered by teaching smaller groups.

Our belief is that we can support an excellent teacher with high expectations to work successfully with all pupils, so expertise in the classroom and the desire to learn will always be significantly more important than SEN experience. We are therefore looking to recruit an enthusiastic, reflective and committed individual with aspirations for future progression within a thriving and unique organisation.

The successful applicant will join our team of experienced teachers and tutors and teach small groups. You must be proactive in your approach, working closely with parents, our staff team and other agencies to find workable solutions and responses to engage pupils, and support their well-being and attendance. You should also be willing to spend time with our pupils outside of lessons to build the essential relationships that shape the Trust and allow us all to flourish.

This role offers work life-balance in abundance with administration tasks kept to a minimum. Smaller groups mean teachers have the opportunity to focus on our priorities, building relationships and delivering quality first teaching.

We encourage you to see us in action, so please contact Mandy Crow - 01442 256915 (ext. 203) to arrange a term-time visit.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share in this obligation. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced disclosure by the DBS.

Visits available any time prior to the closing date.

Applications Close: 17th April 2023 at 9am

Shortlisting: From 17th April 2023

Interviews: Week Commencing 24th April 2023

Roman Fields is a county wide provision based near Hemel Hempstead. In 2018, Roman Fields was awarded the National Autistic Society's Excellence award their very top award, given annually to one school/college/provider only. Soon after, we had a successful Ofsted inspection, where we were graded "Outstanding" in all areas.

Roman Fields became an academy in April 2021 and will be a standalone academy within the James Marks Academy Trust, until it is joined by a second school, the purpose-built free school, the James Marks Academy, in Sept 2023.

Our small trust and the academies within it, will provide pupils, with bespoke timetables that build on their strengths and interests and thus allow them to both re-engage with, and re-discover their love of learning. We offer a provision for a wide range of abilities, including functional skills, vocational qualifications, GCSE and A Level. Please see our examination results on our website, as we are exceptionally proud of our pupils and their achievements.

Our trust is built on academic achievement and relationships, as these are the drivers that enable pupils to flourish personally, socially and emotionally too.

Our aim is to ensure our pupils leave us with clear goals and ultimately become the successful, happy, economically active adults they can be.

All pupils on roll have an EHC plan. Most of our pupils have an autism diagnosis, some have multiple diagnoses including SEMH. The vast majority of our pupils are in KS4 (14-16) and KS5 (16-18) we have a core offer of Maths, English, Science and ICT or Business. The rest of an individual pupil's timetable will be designed around their interests. We are also able to offer Humanities, Art and Music up to GCSE and beyond.

If you are a passionate, committed professional who recognises how much progress pupils can make when support and challenge are in equilibrium, and relationships are strong, we would welcome your application.
