Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an excellent Teacher of Science to deliver high quality lessons at all key stages. You will have a confident understanding of the curriculum, the ability to create new and exciting resources and be committed to motivating, inspiring and challenging our students across all key stages.

To be considered for the TLR you should have evidence of writing schemes of work to address national curriculum changes and exam board requirements.  You will have strong classroom management skills and excellent subject knowledge.  You will have a vibrant personality, will be highly motivated and innovative, and have the ability to develop teaching and learning across the department that enables others to improve attainment and rates of progress.

Sandown Bay Academy is a successful 11 – 18 school based on the Isle of Wight, and is a key member of Academies Enterprise Trust (AET), a multi-Academy sponsor which aims to provide the opportunity for all young learners to fulfil their real potential. Staff and Governors are extremely committed to supporting the implementation of the school’s vision in realising the potential of both staff and students.

The ever changing face of the workforce, leadership and management of professional development is at the very top of the AET’s agenda. We firmly believe that personal and professional growth are key factors in staff’s perception of their worth to an organisation. AET’s vision for the academies is to develop a learning-centred culture with the entire school workforce, including both teachers and educational support staff, giving the same attention to the design, delivery and monitoring of their professional development as is given to the teaching and learning of students. For academies to continue to improve, teachers and other adults need to feel that their learning and development is just as important as the students.

As the sponsor, AET believes that all young people deserve to become world-class learners – to learn, enjoy, succeed and thrive in a first rate educational environment with the best facilities, the best teaching and the most up-to-date resources available to them.  In each of our AET academies, you will benefit from visionary, inspirational and dynamic leadership and be empowered to develop your own skills with access to world-class CPD and Talent Management programmes.  You will also be entitled to the following benefits: a health cash plan, vehicle affinity scheme, Cycle2work, childcare vouchers and Westfield rewards.

This is an opportunity to make a difference within an academy that is ever improving and striving to make our best better. If you share the academy's vision and ambitions, have a desire to work within an ethos of creative collaboration and partnership and want to have a positive impact on young people, families and the community, we would be delighted to hear from you. Visits to the academy are welcomed.

The position is due to commence September 2016.

Ofsted

We are currently judged to be in the 'special measures' category following our inspection in May 2017. Ofsted acknowledges that arrangements are in place to address their findings, but they have not been in place long enough yet to eradicate all weaknesses. They also made comment that Sandown Bay Academy did not feel like an inadequate school, but this judgement was the best way for the sake of the students to ensure the rapid progress needed.
