About the Role 

Merici College is seeking an innovative Science Teacher who can demonstrate effective teaching skills and an excellent understanding of the science curriculum. The position involves a commitment to the school’s philosophy of Powerful Learning, utilising a wide range of student-centred, brain-based learning strategies while also exploring new teaching models to improve the outcomes of students. The successful candidate will join a strong and supportive Leadership Team who are committed to the well-being and growth of staff and students.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide an optimal learning environment for students to achieve excellence.

  • As part of a team design, document and deliver courses that engage students in learning and incorporate the Powerful Learning Principles.
  • Use ICT in the classroom to enhance learning.
  • Provide regular ongoing feedback on student coursework via the timely return of marked work along with constructive feedback that allows the students to reflect on what they have achieved and know how they can improve.
  • Submit to the Study Coordinator drafts of proposed assessment tasks, an assessment program via a Unit Outline at the commencement of the unit, and a work register.
  • Work closely with Pastoral Care teachers, House Coordinators and Studies Coordinators.
  • Ensure that parents are given consistent and appropriate opportunities to participate as partners in the education of their children.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in curriculum areas.

Essential Criteria 

  • An ACT Teacher Quality Insitute (TQI) accreditation and an ACT Working with Vulnerable People's Card (WWVP). 
  • Tertiary educational qualifications in the subject area and willingness to teach in more than one subject area. 
  • An eagerness to lead, support and develop the teaching of science.
  • Participate in appropriate professional development activities.
  • An ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students.
  • An ability to model excellent classroom practices.
