Nightingale Community Academy is a special school in Wandsworth for 120 boys aged 5 to 19 with social emotional and mental health needs.

Primary pupils benefit from a purpose-built classroom hub and outdoor adventure playground and access to weekly music lessons and a comprehensive therapy service. Secondary and post-16 students are offered a broad curriculum including vocational courses such as motor vehicle studies, construction, horticulture and hospitality. All pupils benefit from regular animal therapy at Tom’s Farm, which is located on the spacious school site.

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional, enthusiastic and innovative Science teacher to join our dedicated and welcoming team to work with pupils across the school.  This is an ideal opportunity for either a mainstream Science specialist or a teacher experienced in special educational needs who is confident teaching Science at GCSE level. Class sizes are small, up to 8 students with a Learning Support Professional. Pupils are expected to leave with a GCSE qualification in Science. You will be supported by a Science Technician for practical work and to provide additional support for the pupils to build their confidence whilst also supporting their academic, social and developmental needs.

You will plan differentiated work to meet the needs of individuals and groups promoting progression, continuity and quality of learning by having clear intentions for our pupils learning. You should be able to accurately access need, deliver teaching reflective of need and measure progress with a determination to positively impact on the lives of our pupils. Lessons are carefully planned and take into account the needs, interests and abilities of all pupils so that learning is more purposeful and engaging.
