The Vacancy

Since becoming an academy in September 2009, Kettering Buccleuch Academy has seen many exciting changes. We are an all-through academy catering for students aged 4-18. We moved into our new, purpose-built building in January 2013. The academy continues to go from strength to strength, with happy and motivated staff, a supportive culture and plenty of opportunities for personal growth with our excellent staff CPD offer. We offer a range of benefits including our wellbeing and workload manifesto, Perkbox, covering lifestyle and retail benefits including childcare vouchers, a car lease scheme, cycle to work etc., subsidised meals and an on-site gym which is free for all staff to use.

We welcome visits to our school so that you can experience the unique ethos of Kettering Buccleuch Academy for yourself. If you would like to visit the academy, please contact Miss Millsop, PA to the Principal, on 01536 515644 or via email to WendyMillsop@kba.uk

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, well-qualified teacher of Science to join our growing Science department. The candidate will work closely with the Head of Science and other science teachers to deliver a curriculum built on ‘bringing out the best in everyone’.

In particular, candidates should:

  • Show the ability to be a/or become an excellent classroom practitioner.
  • Have high expectations of students in terms of learning, achievement and behaviour.
  • Have enthusiasm for developing innovative and creative approaches to learning, teaching and student participation.
  • Have a sound subject knowledge which they can utilise to challenge all pupils.
  • Have a clear understanding of the latest curriculum and pedagogical developments in Science.
  • Have an ability to engage and motivate pupils.
  • Have a commitment to support our enrichment programme by facilitating co-curricular clubs.

We would warmly welcome applications from NQT's and experienced teachers.

In return we are offering a highly attractive salary, along with the benefits of being part of United Learning, opportunities to share good practice and collaborate with colleagues across every phase of education.

The role

Due to the ever growing popularity of our school, we seek a motivated, passionate and committed Science teacher to join us from September 2023 in order to promote the highest achievement possible for our students. Keeping your subject exciting, relevant and enjoyable, you'll create an ambitious, innovative and motivating classroom. You’ll inspire and challenge your students so that they develop into highly effective, independent learners and achieve their individual potential. There is the possibility of subject based e.g., Head of Physics, or pastoral TLR for the right candidate. This can be discussed at interview.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a successful and rapidly improving academy. We are driven by a forward-thinking philosophy and a vibrant, positive culture. In a friendly and welcoming school, with supportive colleagues, you’ll be able to make a real impact on our academy and on the lives of the students here. We offer excellent opportunities for professional development to help you further your career and a supportive and friendly environment in which our staff have plenty of opportunity to grow and develop.

About You

You will have Qualified Teacher Status. Whether as an NQT or a more experienced teacher, you’re an inspiring practitioner with the ability to achieve success within a secondary school setting. The ability to teach A level Physics is preferred but is not essential. You will have good interpersonal skills, sound behaviour management skills and have the highest expectations for what our students can achieve.

United Learning

We are part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

We are working hard to become a more diverse organisation – which is key to our commitment to bringing out the best in everyone. We welcome applications from everyone committed to this ethos and would particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in the Group as a whole. We always appoint on merit. We are open to discussing flexible working options.
