Science Teacher - Physics (Senior School)

We are seeking a dynamic Science teacher with a passion for Physics, to join the Senior School teaching team. The post holder will be responsible for teaching Physics at KS3, KS4, and KS5 (A Level), and Science at KS3, and will be expected to deliver high quality lessons while supporting students to achieve their best. The role will also involve working as a Form Tutor in our pastoral team. This appointment is for the new school year starting in September 2024.

The successful candidate will have a recognised UK teaching qualification (ideally B.Ed. and PGCE/PGDE), and have had at least three years' teaching GCSE and A Level studies in a UK school or an international school environment.

Role and Responsibilities

• Deliver high quality teaching, learning & curriculum development
• Create a stimulating class environment which promotes effective teaching & learning
• Develop appropriate, differentiated schemes of work which ensure that the aims and objectives for the teaching of Physics and Science are delivered    
• Plan and prepare courses for assigned timetabled classes and groups
• Prepare courses which make provision for students of differing ability in all subjects
• Monitor & track pupils’ achievements at regular intervals, subject to instructions from Head of Faculty or senior colleagues  
• Sustain effective teaching of subjects, including evaluation of quality of teaching and standards of pupils’ achievements, and the setting targets for improvement  
• Ensure the discipline and safety of all pupils in assigned groups and classes
• Participate in faculty meetings, and with the review, development, and management of activities relating to the curriculum and organisation of the school, including development and improvement planning
• Participate in preparing pupils for internal and external examinations
• Provide opportunities for the use of digital technology within the curriculum
• Perform the roles and responsibilities of a form tutor, working closely with the pastoral team to provide appropriate care and support for the well-being of pupils
• Liaise with parents and attend meetings arranged for that purpose    
• Be involved in the development and delivery of extra-curricular activities and opportunities across the Key Stages
• Work collaboratively with other members of the school
• Identify appropriate resources for the subject and ensure they are used efficiently, effectively and safely, including off-site facilities and school residential trips
• Develop and implement subject policies, plans, target, and practices within the context of the school's aims and policies
• Participate in the break duty rota and undertake cover duties for colleagues, as assigned
• Carry out such other duties as are necessary to meet the needs of the school and pupils, as directed by the Head of Senior School and the Principal
• Remain up to date with subject development, including participating in in-service training
• Participate in professional development and training as required    
• Be a champion for innovation and continuous improvement

Person specification

Essential experience, skills and abilities

• UK qualified teacher, with a recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, B.Ed.)
• At least three years’ experience in the UK or experience teaching the British curriculum in an international school, including GCSEs and A levels
• Teaching experience in Physics (KS3, KS4, KS5), and Science at KS3 level
• Professional interest in working in an international school environment
• Experience of teaching pupils with English as an additional language
• The ability to work with a range of pupils at all levels
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Enthusiasm that inspires others
• Positivity, perseverance, and a good sense of humour
• Strong IT / Edutech skills
