Science Teacher - Physics Specialism

Vijay International SchoolPraslin, Seychelles

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Teacher of Science to commence teaching on 1st September 2021. He / she must able to teach Physics to A-Level. We offer Science as a double award IGCSE and candidates should therefore be confident teaching all 3 science areas to IGCSE level. The school follows the Cambridge Secondary Science programme at Key Stage 3 and again candidates should be confident teaching all 3 science areas at that level.

The Vijay International School, Praslin is a not-for-profit school owned by an association of parents who have their children enrolled at the school. The school offers educational programmes to children aged 3 years to 18 years, with Year 11 students taking IGCSE and Year 12 and 13 taking A-Level examinations with CIE (Cambridge International Examinations). We are a fully accredited CIE centre. The school opened in 2008 and has grown from 47 children to 255 during that decade with an improving local and national reputation for developing the whole child whilst maintaining excellent examination results.

We believe in challenging students to achieve their absolute best. We aim to give them a good grounding in literacy and numeracy whilst not forgetting that the other subjects in the curriculum are essential to effective progress and development. Students in Years 1 - 6  follow the National Curriculum for England and Wales with Early Childhood following the Early Years Framework. Year groups 7 - 9 follow the Cambridge International Curriculum which paves the way for the IGCSE and then A-Level years.

We pride ourselves on personalising our delivery and making sure that all students are happy and have their individual needs met. We have a strong Special Educational Needs department which identifies, assesses and responds to a student's individual requirements. For a small school we pride ourselves on the provision of extra curricular activities, annually holding multiple drama productions and competing nationally in various sports.

Praslin is a small island with a population of just over 7000 people. We feel that it is essential that our students acquire a global perspective and are aware of the different lifestyles and circumstances which exist in other countries.

We invite applications from candidates who hold a degree in Education or another degree and a post-graduate teacher qualification, or who have gained QTS through an alternative route whilst maintaining a specialism in within Science and / or Mathematics. A minimum of 2 years teaching experience is required and experience of the UK curriculum is essential. Previous international experience would again be an advantage but is not essential.  Candidates should have a proven track record of delivering high quality teaching and learning to students across the ability range. Previous experience with EAL students would be beneficial. The right candidate will be able to deliver an engaging curriculum, create a secure and stimulating learning environment and motivate children to succeed.

We offer:
