The school

OBS is an IB World School and the oldest British school in continental Europe. It is accredited by the Council of International Schools and in March 2013, was the first school in Portugal to host a successful inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate. In addition, it is a member of the College of Teachers, COBIS and HMC.

The opportunity

The ideal candidate will have experience of teaching General Science at KS3, and Chemistry at IGCSE and IB Diploma level.  We are open to A-level Chemistry teachers and general scientists who have taught Chemistry to GCSE/IGCSE if they are willing to be supported and trained to teach Chemistry at IB Level.  All applicants must be fully qualified and graduates.

Porto

The school is situated in the stunning coastal district of Foz do Douro – ten minutes from the city centre. Porto is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Europe's hidden gems - situated dramatically on the 'river of gold' with seven magnificent bridges leading out to the city’s beach-lined coast.  Medieval squares and alleys separate its grand architecture where tucked away cafes and restaurants can be discovered.

Application process

All applicants must be fully qualified teachers, have an EU passport, or a valid work permit, and at least 2 years teaching experience post qualification. Experience of teaching the IB DP would be an advantage although candidates with A Level/GCSE or equivalent experience will also be considered.

About Oporto British School

Oporto British School is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational independent, international, bi-lingual, all-through school in Portugal, serving students from the age of 3-18. The all-through school is situated in Porto.

Oporto British School opened in 1894 as an all-boys school. In 1902, non-British boys were accepted, while girls joined from 1914. It holds title as the oldest British school in Continental Europe, and welcomes pupils from over 20 nationalities each year. It follows the English National Curriculum, with students from the age of 6 being introduced to the Cambridge Primary Curriculum, and later Cambridge Secondary Curriculum.
