The Role

Scarborough College is an independent boarding and day school for children aged 3 to 18.

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified and inspiring Science Teacher to join this thriving school, ideally with a specialisation in Biology or Chemistry, commencing September 2024. A good honours degree in Biology or Chemistry is essential, as well as a PGCE or equivalent.

Experience of teaching to Advanced Level is essential along with the ability to teach to Higher Level International Baccalaureate (IB). You will have a good track record of teaching and academic success for students.

Familiarity with G Suite for Education and Management Information Systems would be advantageous, as would experience of teaching international students.

It is also important that the successful candidate is able to contribute to the full co-curricular and pastoral life of the College.

Benefits include discounted fees for employees' children who enrol with the College.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applicants must either apply through TES directly, or complete the Scarborough College application form which can be downloaded from this advert or from the College's website. We will not accept CVs unless they are accompanied by a fully completed application form. Applicants may also include a covering letter. References will be contacted on receipt of application unless otherwise requested. Please complete and submit your application via the TES advert webpage by 5.00 p.m. on the closing date of Friday 19 April 2024.

Interviews are expected to take place shortly after, with dates to be confirmed.

The Headmaster, Guy Emmett, will be happy to answer any questions informally prior to an application. He can be contacted at the College by telephone (01723 380 601) or by e-mail to headmaster@scarboroughcollege.co.uk.

Scarborough College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening including reference checks with current and past employers, prohibition orders, and an enhanced DBS.

The Scarborough College Company was founded in 1896 as a boarding school for boys. In 1972, it opened its doors to female students and presently educates approximately 400 pupils.  The campus is situated only 15 minutes from the beach in the South Cliff area and the College enjoys excellent facilities.

Values and Vision

Above all, our commitment is to discover and fully realise every child’s potential by ensuring that all pupils are seen as individuals whose specific needs are recognised and met.  We are dedicated to providing a far-reaching education that goes beyond the boundaries of the classroom, underpinned by strong lifelong values, which inspires academic excellence and ensures pupils are challenged. Regular opportunities to understand their own capabilities through exposure to a broad range of sporting, cultural and creative activities, widens our pupils’ horizons and builds their self‑confidence.  Within our outward-facing, grounded and caring community the relationships that exist nurture tolerant, honest and compassionate people who will make a genuine difference in their futures beyond the confines of our school.

Ofsted

“Pupils achieve well in a school that they like. Pupils make good progress in the EYFS, the junior school and the senior school. Results in the GCSE, which have generally improved over recent years, show that pupils make good progress and sixth form pupils also attain good results in the International Baccalaureate (IB). Factors contributing to the pupils’ achievement are the very good attitudes to work which pupils bring to the classroom and the good teaching they receive.”
