Michaela Community School is an exciting and successful free school that opened in September 2014 and is rated Outstanding by Ofsted. The ambition of our vibrant and energetic team is to transform the lives of all children, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Many of us are Teach First Ambassadors. Some of us are not. All of us want to change the world.
We have 600 pupils from years 7 to 11. In September 2019, we will open our Sixth Form. There will be a lot of opportunities for promotion, and we invest in the development of our people.
We are looking for a Science teacher with personality, someone who wants to own their classroom and have vibrant and authentic relationships with their pupils. We want teachers who are conscientious, enjoy being with children and love to see pupils’ success. Our tight behaviour systems allow teachers to be themselves, and be as innovative as they like. The Science department is open-minded and driven, and always looking for ways to improve.
At Michaela, staff work together in departments to create shared resources. It makes last-minute planning a thing of the past. Your ideas on curriculum will have impact across your department because everyone shares their resourcing.
You will get the chance to really think about what makes for great teaching. You will work hard, but ou will also become a better teacher and change children's lives.
Our behaviour systems are so tightly managed that instead of worrying about low-level disruption, you are able to try out what works best for the children you are teaching. The relationships you can forge with pupils and the learning you can foster in your classroom are exceptional.
We promote a genuine enjoyment of Science. Pupils are able to relive the excitement of major scientific discoveries through the eyes of great scientists, such as Robert Hooke and Nicolaus Copernicus. A spiral curriculum is not necessary at Michaela, where pupils really do remember what has been taught. The use of chants and acronyms help pupils to remember information such as cell organelles and functions and the life cycle of a star. The aim for the Science department is for all pupils to study towards the double or triple award Science GCSE, with no pupils following a more vocational pathway.
This is a particularly exciting time because we are getting ready for our first cohort of pupils taking Science at A level, so there is real opportunity to shape the subject for the future. Our ambition is that many of our pupils will apply to study Science and related subjects at Oxford and Cambridge.

You are also very welcome to visit the school – and we would recommend it. We are 30 seconds from Wembley Park tube, accessible by both the Jubilee and Metropolitan lines. Visitors often say seeing the school in action changed their minds on a variety of topics and allowed them to see the school as it really is.
