Salary – MPS/UPS + TLR2a

Are you a passionate and dedicated Science Teacher seeking your next teaching role? Due to the growing popularity of the academy and a rapid growth in student numbers, we are seeking to appoint a committed and dynamic Science Teacher to take a leading role in the STEM team to organise academy wide events that promote and raise aspirations for further education and careers in STEM, to assist in the creation of a vibrant extra-curricular programme which compliments the STEM subjects and enables students to access and compete in STEM competitions locally and regionally.

You will develop partnerships with external organisations and businesses to attract investment into the STEM departments and to support the STEM subject leaders in the continued development of the curriculum to incentivise progress into further education and careers in STEM

Co-op Academy Manchester opened in September 2010 in a new building and is sponsored by the Co-op, one of Manchester’s largest businesses. Our academy values centre around the Co-op ‘Ways of being’, which staff and students follow every day.

We are looking for a Science Teacher who is passionate about their subject and is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of scientists. In this role you will need to have a strong subject and pedagogical knowledge so that you can deliver lessons of a high standard to our students.

In return we can offer:

  • Centralised collaborative planning reducing workload
  • Fantastic team to join with high morale and lots of collaboration
  • Outstanding ECT support for new teachers
  • Subject-specific CPD throughout the year
  • Supportive and visionary leaders in science
  • Excellent science facilities including 12 labs, a staff workroom and two prep rooms
  • Research-informed policies and processes
  • Workload and wellbeing a priority for leaders

  • Ability to teach by specialism at key stage 4

A competitive salary will be offered if the successful applicant can show:

  • A commitment to the Co-op ‘Ways of being’
  • They are a strong classroom practitioner and able to motivate, engage and inspire students
  • A strong commitment to the students and raising standards
  • An interest in career progression

Co-op Academy Manchester was recently judged ‘Good’ by Ofsted in March 2023. Ofsted said that:

“Leaders, trustees and governors strive for all pupils at Co-op Academy Manchester to be successful. Pupils are encouraged to demonstrate the ‘ways of being Co-op’ in all that they do.”

“Teachers have strong subject knowledge. They use their expertise to help pupils to learn well in lessons. Teachers who are not specialists in a subject receive appropriate and effective subject-specific training. This enables these teachers to deliver the curriculum equally well.”

“Leaders have thought carefully about the curriculum that they want all pupils to learn, including those with SEND. The curriculum is well organised. Subject leaders have thought deeply about the key knowledge that pupils should learn and the order in which this content should be taught.”

The academy is committed to the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people and expects all of its employees and volunteers to share this commitment. The post is exempt under the rehabilitation of the young offenders act 1974 and the amendments to the expectations order 1975 2013 and 2020 and the successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Co-op Academy Manchester is a mixed, non-selective academy.

The academy, based in Higher Blackley in North Manchester, has over 1,600 students on roll and is part of Co-op Academies Trust.

Values and vision

All academies in our Trust are united by our Ways of Being Co-op.

These are:

  • Do what matters most
  • Be yourself, always
  • Show you care
  • Succeed together

Our shared academy vision is for excellence in everything.

Excellence is not an act but a habit. By its very nature, excellence is difficult to measure or quantify. Excellence is difficult to achieve and even harder to maintain.

It is often said that we are what we repeatedly do. Therefore by having habits of excellence we constantly challenge ourselves to be the best that we can be.

Our team

We are looking for colleagues who are up for a challenge; who want to make a real difference to the lives of the children they work with; who are committed to their own professional development and who want to be outstanding teachers, classroom assistants, administrators, leaders, and support workers across a wide range of roles in our academy.

What we offer

  • The opportunity to work in a highly successful academy with a growing reputation as a high-performing educational setting.
  • Significant opportunities for professional development and growth within the academy and the Trust.
  • The opportunity to work under the ethics and values of the Co-op.
  • Co-op Academies Trust benefits package.
