Job overview

We are looking for an experienced Technician in Science to join us on a Permanent, term time only basis to provide effective support to the Science department.

The purpose of this role is to assist the department in a way that supports the lecturing staff and enables students to access appropriate equipment, materials and resources for their lessons.

You would expect to be predominantly responsible for:

  • Ensuring practical laboratories, classrooms and designated areas are kept clean and organised, enabling safe working environments for both staff and students.
  • Preparing a wide range of specialist Chemistry equipment/materials, to ensure the safe facilitation of practicals and demonstrations within the laboratories/classrooms.
  • Ensuring all equipment and materials are safe to use and that staff and students are following safe working practices.
  • Preparing and dispensing standard chemical solutions and reagents, quality checking for accuracy and hazard information, utilising practical worksheets as required.
  • Researching and testing practicals as required by the lecturing staff, facilitating optimum results and procedures for student assignments and practical’s.
  • Maintaining appropriate practices and procedures with reference to Risk and COSHH assessments.
  • Regular cleaning of equipment, checking deliveries, ordering stock, stock taking, labelling chemicals and storing chemicals appropriately and in a safe manner is also required for this role.


Qualifications and experience

  • At least 3 years’ experience of working in Science (Chemistry) in an educational/industrial or commercial environment (essential)
  • Hold the experience and ability to work with chemical substances and equipment, including maintenance of equipment (essential)
  • To have experience or knowledge of a wide range of laboratory procedures and skills (essential)
  • Level 2 qualification in Chemistry or a related subject and a Level 2 Health & Safety qualification (or a willingness to work towards).
  • First Aid certificate (Or a willingness to work towards)
