Carleton High School is for an enthusiastic and reliable Science Technician to join our friendly and supportive Science department.  

In September 2025, we proudly opened our brand-new, multi-million-pound building with state-of-the-art teaching facilities. Staff and students now benefit from a brand-new science classrooms and preparations areas, providing an excellent environment for high quality science teaching.     

The Science Technician role is central to the smooth and effective running of the Science department and offers an excellent opportunity to work in education with flexible, term‑time hours. 

This position is especially well suited to:

The Role 

As a Science Technician, you will work alongside teachers and the curriculum leader within the department, supporting high‑quality teaching and learning by ensuring practical lessons are safe, well‑resourced and engaging. Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Preparing, setting up and clearing away equipment and materials for practical lessons 

  • Maintaining safe, organised laboratory, preparation and storage areas 

  • Managing stock, including chemicals and specialist equipment 

  • Supporting staff and students during practical activities, including the safe use of equipment 

  • Contributing to the effective day‑to‑day running of the department, with a strong focus on health and safety

Who We’re Looking For 

We are looking for someone who is: 

  • Organised, proactive and able to use their initiative 

  • Detail‑focused with a strong commitment to safety 

  • Friendly and approachable, with the ability to build positive relationships with staff and students 

No previous technician experience is required - full training will be provided. A teaching qualification is not needed, making this role ideal for those exploring a future career in education or science‑related fields. 

Contract Details 

  • Permanent contract 

  • 25 hours per week 

  • Term time only + 2 days 

  • 192 working days per year 

  • Working hours: Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 16:00 
    (Exact hours to be agreed to suit both the successful candidate and school)
