Founded in 1513 by Dame Agnes Mellers, with King Henry VIII sealing the foundation deed, the School boasts a rich heritage of educating boys for over 500 years before expanding to include girls, becoming a co-educational institution in 2015.Our vertical pastoral system is a notable strength, fostering strong relationships between tutors and students throughout their school journeys. The School serves an extensive catchment area, being the first choice for many families in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, and Leicestershire. Our teachers excel in challenging every student, enabling them to achieve exceptional value-added results. In addition to covering the curriculum, a vibrant program of departmental and School societies and clubs enriches the student experience, along with regular visits to concerts and plays through the High School Arts Society.

Music and drama flourish in our Founder Hall, and sports and outdoor activities receive enthusiastic support from both students and staff. Programs such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, the Combined Cadet Force, and our own Scout Group encourage participation. Our Concert Band, music groups, choirs, wind band, and orchestras regularly tour overseas and achieve national success in competitions. In recent years, the School has distinguished itself by receiving several awards, including The Sunday Times Independent School of the Year for Academic Excellence 2025 and the Independent School of the Decade award. The School features its own swimming pool, a sports ground at Valley Road, dedicated hockey pitches at Beeston Hockey Centre, and facilities and coaching in various sports.
