Job overview

Oak Academy is a rapidly improving school, providing quality first teaching and learning to approximately 900 students, including 120 in our growing Sixth Form.

We have undergone significant changes since the arrival of new Leadership in summer 2016, supported by our HMI Visit in November which recognised that “an impressive start has been made in our drive to improve standards.” We are now looking to appoint like-minded, outstanding colleagues who are key to the continued growth and development of our school.

You will be an outstanding Maths practitioner with a commitment to creative and engaging teaching across KS3, GCSE and A level phases. Dynamic and inspirational, you will use your excellent subject knowledge to uphold the ‘High Expectations’ we have for all, securing the progress of every pupil through our ‘no excuses’ culture of learning.

Supporting the Curriculum Leader, you will ensure the improvement of pupils’ maths attainment from KS3 to KS5. The Second in Maths will also be directly responsible for the strategic development of KS5. You will lead by example, supporting the development of highly effective teaching and learning which secures great progress for our students. As such, this role requires a post holder who is passionate about supporting the school CPD offer and someone that will help drive a culture of collaboration across all curriculum areas.

It’s a very exciting time to join Oak Academy. In January we were delighted to open our brand new maths block, providing 21st Century classrooms and work-spaces as the first part of our commitment in improving the school buildings and facilities. You join us at a time of great energy and change and will be given opportunities to contribute to the strategic development of the school. As such, the Second in Maths is an ideal position for someone aspiring to Leadership.

We offer:

• An opportunity to be part of an exceptional, fast developing organisation.

• Superb support from a successful, highly strategic Leadership Team.

• First rate professional development and opportunities for career progression.

• A brand new teaching and learning environment to showcase your teaching talents.

• The perfect location: Bournemouth sits between the New Forest and World Heritage Jurassic Coastline.

The successful candidate will:

• Be an outstanding practitioner of Maths and an inspirational teacher.

• Have in-depth subject knowledge, particularly KS5.

 • Be passionate about improving outcomes for students.

• Have energy, enthusiasm, creativity and flair.

 • Be resilient to the challenges of school improvement.

Applications are welcomed from candidates with all levels of experience. The school offers an excellent professional development programme.

Safeguarding and protecting our children and young people from harm is central to the Federation’s ethos. We want to make sure that children and young people feel safe and secure.  This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Oak Academy is an 11-16 academy, part of Ambitions Academy Trust since 2017, which is perfectly placed within the community to deliver high quality teaching and learning. We are a rapidly improving academy with a new principal in post since May 2022, who works proudly alongside both established and newly appointed colleagues, driven by the shared belief that every student has the right to learn, grow and achieve. It is this ethos that motivates all members of our community in improving the academic outcomes and life-chances of students. We value collaboration and open communication at all levels and see the relationship between parents, staff and students as crucial in our shared success.

Promoting a ‘no excuses’ culture of learning, students at Oak Academy play a significant role in creating the warm and friendly atmosphere that makes daily life at Oak so special.
