Job overview

Located in the attractive village of Newbold in Chesterfield, a short drive from the beauty of the Peak District in Derbyshire and the thriving city of Sheffield, Outwood Academy Newbold is a school with a clear and persuasive ethos. We believe that children never achieve their full potential if their time at school is wasted, and consequently we expect our staff to bring out the best in each and every student.

Our diverse curriculum has something for everyone, with extra guidance for those requiring additional support, and we do whatever it takes to help young people develop a sense of responsibility – towards themselves, each other, their community and the wider world. We are extremely proud of the transformation our academy has started and our welcoming and supportive culture and climate will engage you immediately. If you share our worldview and want to make a real difference to the lives of young people in Chesterfield, you can join us in transforming futures.

Outwood Academy Newbold places students at the centre of everything it does, with a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased student attainment, achievement and social and emotional development. You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘Students First, raising standards and transforming lives’.

Required to start in February 2022, we wish to appoint an inspiring and enthusiastic subject specialist who will engage with our ethos which places students first.

Applications are invited from experienced teachers who wish to develop their career within a fast-moving environment. You will join the Outwood Grange Family of Schools which offers opportunities to access outstanding practice and resources to enhance the learning experience of our students.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • support the Faculty Co-ordinator and to deputise when and where appropriate.
  • ensure provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated science curriculum for all students, in accordance with the aims and the curricular policies of the academy.
  • act as a curriculum lead and be responsible for developing this area.
  • develop and enhance the teaching practice of others.
  • monitor and support the overall progress and development of students.

If you are interested or have any further questions regarding this role, we invite you to contact Sarah Phillips, Head of Science. We also recommend you visit the academy where you will be very welcome.

We are proud that Outwood Academy Newbold is rated Good, with Outstanding leadership by Ofsted and we are based in the large, friendly, Derbyshire town of Chesterfield, near Derby and Sheffield.

We recognise a child’s time at school is irreplaceable and that education provides the bedrock for success in every area of life. This is why we take a holistic view to student development, placing equal value on vocational, practical, creative and academic ability.

Since joining the Outwood Family in 2015, we have been on a journey of transformation and improvement, which has seen our results improve, but more importantly we are delighted that after its latest inspection of the academy Ofsted noted that ‘parents, staff and pupils are positive about the changes that have been made to the school.’

We believe our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs. We are also proud to have been awarded Gold Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

Our knowledge-rich curriculum has something for everyone, with extra guidance for those requiring additional support and we do whatever it takes to help young people develop a sense of responsibility.

We believe we are on a journey to Outstanding. Help to take us to the next level.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
