Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an ambitious person who combines excellent teaching skills, an enthusiasm for the subject and an ability to inspire and motivate pupils.

As Second in Science, you will assist in providing leadership and management of a department, to secure high quality teaching, effective use of resources, and improved standards of learning and achievement for all students.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced teacher looking to take the next step in their career, with a focus on leadership, teaching excellence, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to students and staff promoting excellent, equality and high aspirations
  • Work with the Head of Department to deliver the vision for the subject and implement strategies to improve student attainment
  • Take responsibility for leading key curriculum areas
  • Lead and manage key curriculum areas, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.

What we are looking for:

  • A qualified teacher with a proven track record of results at GCSE with a demonstrable positive impact on student progress and attainment
  • Experience in leading an initiative or project, with a focus on improving student progress.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students
  • A commitment to professional development and the ability to reflect on and improve your own practice.
  • A clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and a commitment to the welfare of students.

Wellfield School is a mixed, comprehensive, non-denominational secondary school without sixth form situated in Wingate, County Durham. It is a community state school that provides 1,200 places for students between the ages of 11 and 16 when fully subscribed.  Wellfield School is part of New College Durham Academies Trust.
