Job overview

Would you like to become part of an innovative free school, within a nationally renowned multi academy trust. An organisation that will nurture your talents and provide high quality ongoing professional development.

Outwood Academy Riverside is an 11-16 provision which opened in September 2020 as part of the Free Schools Programme. As part of Outwood Grange Academies Trust, the academy provides an exceptional provision for young people in our local community, ensuring Students first: raising standards and transforming the lives of children, in the heart of Middlesbrough. Riverside is a special place to work, as there is genuine care for each member of our family. The Riverside community is proud of who we are and what we stand for. We nurture talents and develop skills, supporting one another, with kindness and compassion.

At the start of each academic year all students are inducted into the Riverside values program. This teaches them to understand how to master their emotions, develop their knowledge and wisdom, become kind and compassionate individuals, learn how to protect themselves and their ideals, develop a healthy respect for staff and students, see the importance of truth, integrity and loyalty, be courageous in situations that are difficult, be proud of who they are and be ‘lionhearted’ and fearless in the pursuit of their own happiness.

There is an academic rigour within the Academy. Students are not faced with a ‘glass ceiling’ and are not restricted by their prior attainment or context. There is an expectation that staff challenge students and themselves to be the best they can be.

At Outwood Academy Riverside we have high expectations because our children and staff deserve nothing less. Would you like to be part of this journey?

A fantastic opportunity has arisen at Outwood Academy Riverside for an enthusiastic teacher of science who is ready to make that next step and be the 2nd in science of a growing department. You will join the leadership team of a department that will achieve their first set of Y11 results in August 2025. This is an exciting time to join Outwood Academy Riverside (Outwood Grange Academies Trust flagship free school) as we look to move into our new building.

Applicants who are successful and work at any of our academies in Middlesbrough, may be entitled to claim back their student loans yearly for an extensive time period (depending on when you qualified). (Application required - more information can be found here)

AND you could be entitled to either:

Levelling up payment: £6000 per annum from September 2024 for chemistry and physics teachers (Application required - more information can be found here)

OR

Early Career payment: £2000-3000 per annum until 31 August 2025 (Application required - more information can be found here

Outwood Academy Riverside is a thriving school at the heart of the community, and due to our popularity, our roll numbers are increasing. As we expand we now seek to appoint a second in science to lead our team of 4 brilliant teachers. All science lessons are taught in a specialist lab. At GCSE we follow the AQA specification delivering both the separate science and the Trilogy Combined Science curriculum.

If you would like a conversation about the post or have a tour of the facilities, please contact Aalok Kanwar a.kanwar@outwood.com Senior Regional Director of Science.

Outwood Academy Riverside is currently at Russell Street, Middlesbrough. A new, state of the art, school will be built on Pioneering Way, adjacent to Middlesbrough College. In the interim, as the school grows, we will have a satellite site in Eston, opening in September 2024. It is expected that appointed staff may also be deployed to work at that site. There is not a vast distance between the two sites and it will be a ‘mirror image’ of everything Riverside is about.

If you genuinely love working with children, will go above and beyond for our young people and want to work as part of an inspirational and dynamic team that are proud to be creating local history, then we would love to hear from you.
