We are a close-knit, community school with an amazing team of staff that support each other in helping our students become the successful and confident global citizens they deserve to be. As the last local authority maintained secondary school in Somerset, this is your chance to come and be part of something unique.

We are seeking a passionate, energetic and ambitious Second in Science to join our expanding team of staff at Wadham School. Following the promotion of the existing post-holder to Acting Head of Department, this is an exciting opportunity for you to begin your leadership journey in a school where staff morale is high, and classrooms are quiet and purposeful places where learning takes place. (Ofsted 2025)

We are looking for an outstanding individual who will relish the opportunity to:

  • To be an exceptional teacher of Science.
  • Develop and demonstrate high-quality leadership skills.
  • Act as a lead practitioner and model of excellent teaching in all aspects of the role.
  • To help ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality teaching and learning across the curriculum area.
  • To work alongside the Head of Science and team and begin leading areas as directed, such as taking on responsibilities for supervising the KS3 curriculum.

You are likely to be someone who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and has a degree or equivalent.
  • Is flexible, able to work under pressure, meet deadlines and prioritise workload.
  • Has a track-record of exceptional classroom teaching with an understanding of effective pedagogy.
  • Can demonstrate a commitment to and knowledge/experience of effective strategies to maintain and raise attainment, in particular to address the differing needs which exist in the mixed ability classroom, which include second language learners.
  • Has experience of improving outcomes for students with SEND or disadvantage.
  • Has a commitment to the aims and values of comprehensive education, the school’s vision and ethos, as well as the implementation of equal opportunities policy and practice

Wadham School can offer you:

  • The chance to be a part of an exciting educational journey alongside highly regarding professionals.
  • The opportunity to work with exceptional colleagues and wonderful young people and their families.
  • Strong and supportive leadership, who place value on learning beyond the classroom.
  • The opportunity to work in one of the most beautiful areas of Southern England.
  • Fulfilment, in knowing that you matter, and the work you do makes a positive difference to the lives you touch.

Values and Vision

“Life in all its fullness.” John 10:10

We believe that everyone deserves to experience life in all its fullness and should be given the opportunities and support to do so — this is what makes our job as educators so fulfilling.
