Application information for the post of

 Secondary Chemistry Teacher

British International School of Cracow, Kraków, Poland

The School

The British International School of Cracow was founded in September 1995 to provide an international education for the growing expatriate community. Our curriculum at BISC Kraków is based upon the British educational system for pupils aged 3 to 18. Students in Year 10 and 11 follow the International Baccalaureate programme, leading to the prestigious IB dipoma.

Approximately 200 pupils aged 3-18 attend BISC Kraków, who represent 40 countries. With the maximum class size of 16, the overall ambience throughout the school is warm, friendly and relaxed, yet at the same time academically demanding. BISC Kraków takes great pride in offering a family-friendly environment with high learning expectations. Pupils at BISC Kraków continually earn above-average results for IGCSE, IB and ISA (International Schools Assessment) examinations. The school is proud to be registered with organisations such as Cambridge International Examinations and ISA and members of ECIS and COBIS.

The Premises

BISC Kraków is located right in the heart of historic Kraków, just five minutes’ walk from the beautiful main Market Square (Rynek). The school is housed in an early twentieth-century tenement building on a quiet street, within walking distance of a wealth of atmospheric cafes and snack bars often used by our teachers, parents and older students. A nuns' garden belonging to a convent just across the road is used for our younger children at playtime. Older primary pupils are taken to an outdoor play area at lunchtime very near the school. Classes and specialist rooms such as science labs, a computer lab, music room, library and dining room are spread out over the five floors of our attractive premises.

City of Kraków

For people who like a cultural or social life, Kraków is the place to be. It is a beautiful, historic city which used to be the capital of Poland until the sixteenth century. There are plenty of concerts (classical music, folk, jazz, opera, ballet, and more), exhibitions, cinemas, various celebrated days throughout the year, as well as a huge variety of cafes, clubs and restaurants in the old centre.

Kraków’s historic heritage attracts tourists from all over the world. Its proximity to other major European cities, such as Prague, Budapest, Bratislava and Vienna, make it an inviting place to call home. Its close proximity to the Tatra mountain range in the south of Poland provides excellent weekend breaks in all seasons. Other historic hubs of interest within an hour’s drive of Kraków include the 800-year-old salt mine of Wieliczka; the late Polish Pope’s birthplace of Wadowice; and the infamous Nazi concentration camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau. More and more expatriates are finding Kraków a highly desirable place to live.
