Job overview

Do you believe that every child deserves to enjoy and succeed in mathematics, regardless of their background? Are you ready for a professional development opportunity where you will impact dozens of schools and hundreds of students?

Mathematics Mastery is an innovative programme that aims to transform mathematics education in the UK. We work in partnership to empower and equip almost 300 schools to deliver world-class mathematics teaching. Our team are primary and secondary teachers and others passionate about our mission.

The role: Secondary Development Lead

As we continue to grow, rolling out our programme, and recruiting 40 more partner schools, we are seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate to join the Mathematics Mastery team to further develop our support for schools. You will work directly with schools across the UK to support the implementation of the Mathematics Mastery programme, and develop our training materials and teaching resources for partner schools.

Key responsibilities:

  • Create and revise curriculum and professional development materials.
  • Support a portfolio of schools to implement the programme, including carrying out school development visits and providing advice and training.
  • Identify and research best practice to continually improve our approach.
  • Plan and deliver training workshops and inter-school collaboration sessions.
  • Take responsibility for an agreed area of the team’s work.

We’re proud to say that many Development Leads return to the classroom after a couple of years with us, where they can go on to have even greater impact as teachers after working with dozens of schools and experiencing significant professional development.

More about Mathematics Mastery

The Mathematics Mastery approach emphasises problem-solving, deep understanding and mathematical language through using objects and pictures, and evidence-based practice. It also draws significantly from the ‘mastery’ principles of higher performing jurisdictions such as Singapore and Shanghai. Mathematics Mastery is part of the Ark network, and our partnership now extends to almost 300 schools.

To apply, please send a completed application form to recruitment@mathematicsmastery.org by 11.00am on 4th May 2017.

Mathematics Mastery is a non-profit organisation, dedicated to transforming mathematics education in the UK.

Based on international evidence and practice, our school improvement programme aims to enhance pupils' enjoyment, resilience, understanding and attainment in mathematics.

Originally established as an Ark venture, Mathematics Mastery was founded by Dr Helen Drury - a pioneer of teaching and learning for mastery in UK schools.

Mathematics Mastery has a vision for all children to enjoy and succeed in maths, regardless of background. We believe in high-quality, maths-focused professional development for teachers can make this happen.

Launching within a small group of schools in 2012, the programme has grown to work with hundreds of schools across the country.
