Secondary Economics Teacher

St. George’s the British International School, Munich, Germany.

St. George’s School seeks a well-qualified teacher of Economics to work across our secondary schools, to begin in August 2019.

The School

Having opened in September 2013, St. George’s School Munich has rapidly developed into a thriving community of around 450 pupils and 70 teachers. The school continues to grow, and as the school matures we expect to reach 800 pupils. The school’s ethos of combining an enriching curriculum with family orientated care makes the school a warm and engaging place to work and learn.

In September 2017, the school embarked on an exciting phase of its development, as it moved to a new, purpose-built campus located in the city. These premises provide first-class educational facilities for all ages and subject areas.

The National Curriculum is taught throughout the school and we offer IGCSE qualifications to pupils in our Upper School. Students in the Sixth Form prepare the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

One of a group of three schools located across Germany, St. George’s offers the successful applicant an exciting range of opportunities for professional development and growth across the school group.

The Location

The school’s new campus is located in the area of Schwabing-Freimann, to the north of the city centre. The site enjoys good access to the U6 metro line, as well as the A9 motorway.

Germanys third largest city, and the capital of the state of Bavaria, Munich is a dynamic and vibrant cultural centre, with a large and diverse international community. Situated on the northern edge of the Alps, Munich offers a high standard of living, as well as numerous opportunities for travel and outdoor pursuits.

Munich airport is located 30km from the school, with many daily flights to the UK, and high speed rail services connect Munich to a wide range of European destinations.

The Role

We are seeking to appoint a qualified Economics Teacher to work within our team of secondary teachers.

The successful applicant will be a dynamic teacher with experience of enabling pupils to achieve their potential. We are looking for the right balance between experience, enthusiasm and a passion for teaching that will inspire our pupils.

The secondary department covers the age range 11-18 and incorporates the curricula for Key Stage 3, IGCSE and IB Diploma. Familiarity with the British education system is therefore a prerequisite. Experience of IB teaching is preferred, but not required.

Economics is a popular subject in our Upper School, where pupils explore a broad range of topics relating to the economics of the developed and developing world, explore data handling techniques and analysis, and develop a maturing appreciation of economic policy decisions and their impact.

Given the growing and developing nature of the school, flexibility and the desire to support other team members is a prerequisite. A strong desire to contribute to the rich pastoral and extra-curricular life of the school will also be an advantage.
