Horizon International School in Dubai is an established, thriving community that follows the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum of England in Primary and Secondary. Students take a combination of IGCSE and GCSE at the end of Key Stage 4 leading into ‘A’ levels thereafter. Since our doors opened in September 2008, the school community has rapidly grown, and we now have approximately 850 students with ages ranging from 3 to 18 from over 45 different countries.

The Post

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated, dynamic and innovative Head of Department with an excellent track record and experience of successfully leading and delivering on school priorities; to help shape and ensure the success of our developing Secondary Department. 

The successful candidate must possess the capacity and credibility to drive forward the ambition, ethos and vision of the school, with a commitment to their own and others’ professional development. Applicants should have demonstrated significant impact as a teacher. They must be willing to build upon their existing teaching and leadership skills, ensuring that the principles and policies of Horizon International School are implemented and embedded to ensure everyone counts, everyone contributes and everyone succeeds. 

You will need to demonstrate a commitment to and evidence of success in sustaining academic excellence, upholding high standards and development of the wider aspects of school life; that enable every child to succeed. Applicants should be excellent classroom practitioners in their own right; as well as being able to; work as part of a team, roll up their sleeves and inspire other staff to excel.  

Qualifications/Professional Development/Experiences essential for the role:

• Proven ability to develop and implement a strategic vision for their subject

• Has participated in a leadership programme and is currently actively developing their leadership skills

• Has led on whole school initiatives and can evidence impact

• Teaches consistently very good to outstanding lessons as evidences through lesson observations.

• Professional both in their conduct and appearance and fully committed to the life of the school

A relevant degree coupled with PGCE or QTS is essential. Police clearance certificates are also not negotiable.

Relevant UK experience in Secondary Drama - HOD is essential and recent international experience would be advantageous, though not essential. 

The school provides a competitive salary package commensurate with the post.
