Job overview

We wish to appoint a Secondary Learning and Teaching Adviser/Coach on a fixed term basis for 1 year.  We want to hear from colleagues who have successful experience in a middle leadership role, and a track record of raising achievement within a department and supporting others to improve.

The successful applicant will join our central academy effectiveness team, working closely with our secondary academies to raise standards. The role of learning and teaching coach is an exciting post providing enormous scope both for further progression and for a talented practitioner to gain experience across a group of academies.

Your opportunity:

The role will be multi-faceted and involve coaching and mentoring, developing and sharing what works, delivering trust-wide curriculum development, strengthening departments or supporting rapid improvement where required. The academy effectiveness team works with Principals, senior leadership teams, departments and teachers at all stages of their career to improve standards and outcomes for our students.

This position is a great opportunity to develop and prepare for senior leadership. You will have the opportunity to advance your career within a trust established in developing practitioners and nurturing excellent future leaders. We offer unrivalled opportunities for progression; whatever your aspirations as a senior leader. Our CPD programme provides a range of bespoke courses and qualifications, including a number of highly successful CPD networks, the post holder would have the opportunity to play a key role in this work.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for an experienced teacher with successful management experience (ideally but not necessarily at Head of Department level or alternatively be an SLE/aspirant SLE). The post would suit an ambitious middle leader looking either to broaden their subject expertise and responsibilities, or who is maybe considering a future leadership pathway.

The successful applicant will be a resilient, creative and a dynamic practitioner, and must hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant degree, with at least four years teaching experience and at least two years experience in a management role. You will be fully supported through a comprehensive Induction Programme both within the team and across the academies we serve.

Whilst the academy effectiveness team has a base site at Orchard House in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire (with easy access to the M62 and M1), the team spends the vast majority of their time working on-site at academies. All of the secondary academies are located within a maximum commute of 45 minutes from each other, and it’s through this close network that resources, knowledge and best practice can be shared whilst working as a team to provide our academies with excellent support and professional development.

Recruitment Process:

In line with the Government’s announcement, our academies are closed until further notice. However, during this period it is our intention to continue with recruitment for key positions starting in September 2020. In place of academy interviews, alternative options will be offered so that no one is at a disadvantage, and applicants should expect telephone or virtual interviews, with the possibility of on-site academy interviews only in special cases until government requirements change. We want to reassure applicants that effective measures have been implemented to ensure everyone’s health and well-being.

Thank you for your cooperation during this difficult time.

Closing Date: Friday 24th April at 9am

Interview Date: Monday 4th May

Welcome to the South Pennine Academies

At South Pennine Academies, we want every student to have the best possible chance to achieve in school. Stronger partnerships with families, local businesses, community agencies and universities are essential as we focus on improving student outcomes.

South Pennine Academies is an exempt charity and a not for profit organisation. The Trust operates as a multi academy trust and in that respect is the employer across all the academies in the partnership.  A multi Academy trust is simply a number of academies who agree to work together within an overarching trust body with a remit to co-ordinate matters of common interest referred collectively by the Governing Bodies.

South Pennine Academies has been developed to allow Moor End Academy to work formally in partnership with other academies, pre-schools and other organisations.

South Pennine Academies is also recognised by the DfE as an Academy Sponsor. Sponsors are held accountable for improving the performance of their schools and this involves taking responsibility for their performance and financial arrangements.

The trust is led by Lynda Johnson who is the Chief Executive Officer and Accounting Officer for the trust. She has a strong track record in school improvement supporting schools across a number of local authorities.

The Trust also operates Huddersfield Horizon SCITT, taking an increasing number of trainees, based at our new Head Office premises in Elland, West Yorkshire.
