Our Secondary Teachers must demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining a collaborative culture and a supportive environment within the school. They need to have a thorough understanding of the social and emotional dimensions of learning and encourage students to share their joys and concerns knowing they will always be supported.   

 

As a Mathematics Teacher, you play a pivotal role in fostering a deep understanding and appreciation for mathematics among your students. Your primary responsibility is to design and deliver engaging math lessons that cater to the diverse needs and abilities of your students. Your goal is to impart essential mathematical knowledge and problem-solving skills while nurturing a positive attitude toward the subject.

 

Role

For the time between August and December 2024, we are looking for additional support in our Mathematics Department. This position is temporary and the contract will end in December 2024 however there is the potential to prolong the contract until the end of the school year.

 

Specific Responsibilities


Teaching and Learning

  • Teaching IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) Mathematics classes from Grades 6 to 12
  • Teaching the Personal Development Programme to the class for which they are a tutor
  • Demonstrating effective classroom management that shows an understanding of the academic, social and emotional dimensions of learning
  • Using technology to enhance learning and supporting the e-learning initiatives within the school

 

Assessment and Reporting

  • Ensuring assessments support ongoing learning and providing timely, relevant and appropriate feedback to students on formative and summative assessments of school procedures
  • Keeping parents informed about the learning of their children, and being proactive in communication with parents

 

Curriculum development

  • Ensuring curriculum plans are up-to-date for the grade levels they teach
  • Contributing to the planning and delivery of inter-disciplinary curriculum projects

 

Social and emotional aspects of learning as a teacher and tutor

  • Contributing positively to the collaborative culture of their teams by being engaged and participating in team and secondary meetings
  • Supporting the social and emotional well-being of the students in their classes
  • Liaising with the Head of Department and IB Coordinators to ensure that programme requirements are met within the classes taught

 

Supporting the collaborative culture at ICS

  • Constructing learning activities that challenge students and demonstrate an understanding of the diverse needs of the students in their classes
  • Supervising Personal Projects and Extended Essays as required
  • Participating in student recognition processes including assemblies, academic and extracurricular awards ceremonies etc.
  • Recording and reporting student progress following the procedures established by the school
  • Adhering to Secondary School deadlines
  • Assisting, as requested, with cover of classes for absent colleagues
  • Assisting, as requested, with the administration of exams

 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Current classroom teacher qualification to teach Mathematics
  • Minimum 4 years of recent and relevant Senior School classroom experience
  • Knowledge and experience of the IB DP and MYP programmes
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • IT competence
  • Strong organisational skills
  • A valid Swiss work permit is a must

The ICS Inter-Community School, situated in Zürich, is a mainstream, mixed gender, all-through school located in Zurich. Established in 1960, the ICS now has over 800 students from 55 nationalities.

At the Primary School level The Inter-Community School covers the following subjects; Mathematics, Reading and Writing, The Arts, and Social Studies,
