Job overview
Our instrumental music program is well established and we are looking to further consolidate our music with the appointment of a voice specialist music teacher. As well as teaching regular classes through middle school and secondary they will also take on responsibility for extracurricular school choir practice and performances.
Responsibilities

- Possess competent classroom management, educational planning, and student follow-up skills
- Incorporate a variety of teaching and learning approaches including strategies for differentiation, teaching ESL students, enquiry-based learning, et cetera

- Pay attention to details of the latest syllabi and curricula, plan and teach accordingly and effectively
- Exercise appropriate care for students’ intellectual, emotional and physical health
- Communicate with appropriate colleagues and administrators regarding school’s expectations regarding academic, behavioral and moral standards
- Cooperate with colleagues and show due diligence in planning and other paper work
- Show creativity in lesson planning, departmental activities and school-wide activities

Arts
The arts department is well supported at school of the nations and is a vibrant lively section of the school. The arts teachers have their own office space to allow collaboration and support between drama, music and he visual arts. Students from kindergarten through to IB come to our department for specialist lessons. In addition to scheduled classes we also offer extracurricular enrichment such as large-scale musical productions in our impressive auditorium, rock band, and clay club. Teachers who are positive, flexible, and capable with a palpable enthusiasm for their specialism tend to thrive in this highly rewarding setting.
Working Hours & Schedule
Teachers have 36 working hours per week, normally 8:15am - 3:45pm. For THIS role, however, the working hours might begin at 10 or 11am, since much of the work will be done after school.
There are about 30 days of Macau and school holidays throughout the year which includes both Winter and Chinese Spring Festival breaks, plus about 60 days of summer holidays. Monthly working Saturdays—which often foster community engagement and extension activities—allow us to lengthen our holidays while still meeting contact day requirements.
Compensation & Benefits
The annual base salary, including housing allowance, is approximately US$44,000, after tax, and is slightly increased based on years of experience. This does not include the annual travel allowance, new year’s bonus, pension contributions, and a yearly re-enlistment bonus equivalent to one month’s salary. Furthermore, the government of Macau generously provides a teacher’s professional development subsidy of at least US$600 per month. Taken together, the after-tax total compensation that teachers receive is around US$58,000.
Benefits include local healthcare coverage, reduced tuition for up to two dependents to enroll in the school, internal professional development, and assistance in finding an apartment which includes a one-week hotel stay. The school also covers basic quarantine costs, if needed, for arriving teachers.
Pandemic Considerations
Since mid-2022 teachers from abroad have been able to enter Macau. As of December 2022, full vaccination is not required although 5 days of home quarantine is needed. During the hiring process, we can discuss the specific requirements should this be a concern.
Requirements
A relevant bachelor’s degree. (Coursework completed at the Master or Ph.D. level is highly valued but can only be used to partially satisfy this specific requirement of the Education Department. Other teaching qualifications and certifications, always appreciated, are not required for employment as a Middle School or Secondary teacher in Macau).
Fluency in English, which is the medium of instruction.
Minimum two years of teaching experience.
Start Date
New teachers traditionally reach Macau in early August and enter the classroom from September. However, this position may begin at any time from January to August 2023, the sooner the better, considering the candidate's personal and professional circumstances along with the travel and entry restrictions related to the pandemic.

An IB World School, we offer the IBDP Diploma to Form 5 and 6 pupils, while students completing Form 3 and 4 are prepared to sit the IGCSE Exam.
