Job overview

Secondary Nurture/DT Teacher (SEN).

Tes is currently supporting a friendly and supportive SEN school, based in Ashford, Kent. The school is looking to add a Secondary Nurture/DT Teacher to its progressive and supportive team ideally starting ASAP.

This role is suitable for both a primary teacher wanting to move into secondary but keeping the primary model of overseeing and leading the majority of teaching for that group (except for specialist subjects) OR for a secondary teacher interested in following a primary philosophy of overseeing a single classes curriculum and building fantastic, lasting relationships with a small group of children. When it comes to looking after their children, they never settle for second best.

"The school offers a unique and stimulating environment where every pupil is able to make outstanding progress in their personal development & enjoy success in their education. With modern, well-resourced classroom pods, the expertise of the dedicated staff team ensures that each child can put past failures behind them in a calm and settled atmosphere. Each student is motivated through a personalised curriculum and clear targets.

Set in a spacious rural setting near Ashford, and attracts pupils from across Kent, neighbouring counties & parts of London, because of its growing reputation for success.

Pupils with a wide range of needs, including social & emotional issues, learning difficulties, mental health problems & associated conditions, are able to enjoy extraordinary outcomes and be happy at school. From its nurturing approach for primary pupils through to the relaxed working environment of the specialist 6th Form Centre, all students are encouraged to reach high standards in every aspect of their lives.

Students here move on to college courses, apprenticeships and jobs, confident they can lead happy & meaningful adult lives."

The school is offering:

• A super supportive and highly visible SLT team and Headteacher;

• progression support throughout the school and wider group

• the chance to take on further responsibility in the future.

The school expects:

• A UK teaching qualification such as PGCE/PGDE, SCITT, BEd or MEd with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• a relevant DT Degree or a related subject

• experience in delivering DT pushing and engaging learners to progress within the subject

• whilst previous experience of working in an SEN/ASC environment would be desirable, excellent teaching skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important
