Job overview

The Bridge School is a Secondary (KS3 & 4) Pupil Referral Unit and Alternative Provision. We work with young people who are at risk of exclusion, or who have been excluded, because of their social, emotional and mental health challenges. A key objective for our team of staff is to increase levels of integration into mainstream settings. We understand that working closely with high schools to build capacity through improving skills and producing collaborative solutions is highly important. We also focus keenly on raising the ability of our students to acquire the personal skills to cope with the challenges of group learning in a large setting.

The School is now at the stage where it is committed to developing an Outreach Team.  The team will work collaboratively with high schools and other Local Authority services to identify and support young learners at risk of exclusion, or who are in need of developmental support regarding their behaviour. The team will comprise of support Mentors and be led by a Lead Teacher.

The Lead Teacher will have had direct experience working with and teaching young people with challenging behaviour in a specialist setting and in a mainstream secondary school. They will be a person who has been able to demonstrate impact and change. As they will be leading a small team they will need to be a motivating, supportive and outcome focussed individual, who will be respected as a leader and manager. Additionally, the candidate must be able to present collaborative and effective communication and leadership skills working alongside high school colleagues and leaders. The ability to develop a service that reflects the needs of the children, and high schools, is core to the purpose of the service. To this end candidates will have to demonstrate an ability to be sensitive to ‘need’, both on a personal level and a strategic level.

The Bridge School is proud of its reputation and values. We seek to employ an individual who can maintain these and positively develop them further.

The Outreach Team is commissioned through funds agreed at Halton Schools Forum, initially for a period of two years before review.

Potential candidates are encouraged to visit the school to further discuss the role and to gain an insight into the profile of the students and the role. Please contact Nigel Hunt, Headteacher, on 01928-581301 head.thebridge@halton.gov.uk
