Job overview

The Active Learning Trust wishes to appoint a dedicated secondary expert to this interesting and unique new post of School Improvement Inspector-Adviser. We are a multi-academy Trust based in the East of England and you will join us at an exciting time in our development. Given the compact size of the Trust’s secondary provision we envisage that this role can be flexibly adapted to working on a part- time basis – an indication of the level of commitment is 3 days per week in term- time with flexibility in how time is allocated provided that the impact of the work in schools is positive and sustained.

Your job will be to; -

  • regularly challenge and assist all the Trust’s secondary provision which is based at existing secondary schools in March and Ipswich;
  • work with our newly-transferring secondary school in Chatteris Cambridgeshire;
  • provide support to the secondary phase within our current special school in Ely;
  • work with our primary colleagues to secure improvements in transition across all our schools

You will be joining us at a time when we are about to open a new secondary school in September 2017 at the new Littleport campus which includes a secondary school co-located with an all-through special school.

As part of our small core team of educational professionals and senior managers, you will work Trust-wide as the key professional adviser on secondary standards, curriculum and school improvement for our Principals/Executive Headteachers. They will look to you, and rely on you, to mentor their activities and approaches, as well as to encourage, challenge, support and guide them in delivering constant and evidence-based improvement.

You will - work alongside the Director for School Improvement & Development and cross-phase hub leaders to deliver together the best outcomes for all our secondary provision.

You are- a Graduate and qualified teacher, probably with successful and recent experience of secondary headship and/or senior inspection or consultancy and who wants to take your influence to the next level across a multi-academy trust setting.

You have- a reputation as a well- regarded leader and manager within the secondary sector who can gain the Trust and respect of fellow Principals/Executive Headteachers, and a current up to date and in-depth knowledge and understanding of all aspects of secondary provision.

You want- to show your skills as a strategic thinker, planner and evaluator who is thrilled at the prospect of extending your impact and seeing our planned new schools shine from day one. You want our Principals/Executive Headteachers to give of their very best, and can show them how to do so.

You know- your stuff when it comes to pupil data and the analysis of achievement, the development and action planning for school improvement and the requirements for the inspection regime.

In return for your energy, enthusiasm, professional experience and expertise we offer you a unique role to stretch and spread your impact at Trust level to make a real difference to the secondary offer. This is an opportunity to be part of a close and dependable senior leadership group in a highly regarded and dedicated multi-academy Trust.

Salary is negotiable based on availability for part-time working. Based on an example of 3 days per week during term- time we expect remuneration to be circa £40-45k per annum plus a generous car allowance, expenses policy, and healthcare benefits.
