About St Joseph's School, Stanthorpe

St Joseph’s School is located in Stanthorpe, New South Wales, and is a Catholic co-educational day school for students from preparatory through to Year 12 (ages 5-18).

Established in 1875 by four Sisters of Mercy, St Joseph’s has always aimed to provide students with an excellent Catholic education. The original school was a small single-room building, which was updated in 1907. A new school was built, including an infants department, where the secondary campus now stands. In 1955, the original school property was sold. In 1999, the school expanded to include Year 11 and 12 students.

Facilities

St Joseph’s has a well-resourced library, science rooms, design and technology facilities, an established garden, music rooms, a tuck shop and home economics rooms. As well as the sporting facilities, students have access to the local YMCA for sporting activities.

Curriculum

To encourage learning that meets the needs of each student, classes at St Joseph’s are arranged in stages from early stage 1 to stage 6. This aims to provide a more flexible approach than traditional year groupings. St Joseph's has an active ICT presence with many online platforms to support student learning and encourage communication between students, teachers and parents. As well as the key learning areas and many co-curricular activities, St Joseph’s employs the "You can do it!" program. This aims to provide students with an explicit social and emotional education. The program focuses in particular on resilience, confidence, getting along and organisation.

School ethos

St Joseph’s aims to provide a holistic education that supports students spiritually, academically and personally. The school is underpinned by the values of service, mercy, respect, compassion and dignity.
