Description The Learning Support Teacher works with the Learning Support Coordinator in the management and delivery of special needs focus programs, and provides assistance to teachers in developing curriculum adjustments. Where appropriate the Learning Support Teacher may assist with the supervision of support personnel and be able to assist staff in their professional development needs. St Joseph’s College Lochinvar currently offers a Catholic co-education for students from Years 7-12 St Joseph’s was founded in 1883 by the Sisters of St Joseph and is situated 10 minutes west of Maitland and 40 minutes from Newcastle via the Hunter Expressway.
Position Requirements • a relevant understanding and support of the philosophy of Catholic Education.
• willingness to learn about and engage with the Josephite charism and integrate this charism into all aspects of professional practice
• capacity to work under the direction of the Learning Support Coordinator.
• capacity to assist with the initial identification of students with additional educational needs;
• capacity to work collaboratively with the principal, learning support coordinator, class teachers, parents and students to develop appropriate assessment strategies, identify resources and implement effective strategies to create learning and social opportunities for students with additional education needs;
• ability to liaise with relevant schools, particularly in relation to transition periods;
• capacity to collaboratively design, implement, modify and evaluate Individual Personalised Plans (PPs) with class teachers and other relevant people;
• ability to contribute to the preparation of documentation required under legislation in line with privacy and confidentiality obligations, for example, student files;
• ability to adopt a range of strategies in order to provide high quality, ongoing pastoral care of students
• willingness to assist in the preparation of funding submissions;
• commitment and capacity to actively contribute to staff professional development and parent education programs
• high level interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
Essential Criteria • have the appropriate experience and/or qualifications in Special Education
• have teaching qualifications and experience in a Secondary School
• be appropriately qualified as a four year trained teacher
• record current NESA and Working With Children number on the application
• applicants will need to comply with the Accreditation to Work Teach and Lead (formerly FEA ) and will need to work towards Accreditation at Category B – Accreditation to teach. Note: To start or return to working as a teacher in a NSW school, you must be accredited by NESA.
