SEMH Teaching Assistant / West Newcastle 

Vision for Education is seeking to appoint a specialist SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our successful supply teaching team and to work in a local primary school in the West area of Newcastle Upon Tyne. 

The school is a smaller than average sized Primary with an above the national average number of EAL pupils as well as pupils with varying special educational needs. The school has a strong leadership team who have created a positive culture in which diversity is embraced and celebrated and they are working hard to raise pupil motivation and attainment levels.

The school are seeking a dedicated, experienced SEN Teaching Assistant who will work specifically with pupils who have social and emotional mental health issues across the school. The role is full time and will last for the duration of the term, up until December. A Team Teach qualification is desirable.

The successful SEMH Teaching Assistant will have excellent knowledge of working with children with additional needs, and ideally will have worked on a one to one and small group basis supporting pupils in this area.

To be considered for the position of SEMH Teaching Assistant you must:

· Must be level 3 qualified in teaching and learning in schools or equivalent

· Have experience working with children with SEMH and sound Primary curriculum knowledge

· “Team Teach” Qualification would be desirable

· Experience liaising with outside agencies, communicating with parents and forming positive relationships with teaching and support staff

· Capable of devising suitable education plans to support the pupil and ensure they are given every opportunity to reach their full potential is crucial

· DBS on the update service is advantageous, but full assistance provided if a new application is required
