The Holmewood School is a small, friendly independent school meeting the needs of 7-19 year olds with high functioning autism and Asperger’s Syndrome, language & communication difficulties and SpLD. We are part of the Cavendish Education group.

We are looking for a dynamic, flexible and enthusiastic qualified art teacher to join school.  It is likely that your work will be largely based in the Lower school with our 7-14 year olds but the role will require flexibility to work in the Upper School (including teaching GCSE) where needed.   You will work alongside our existing Art Teacher who has several years experience at the school and may be required to fulfill the role of a Form Tutor on a part time basis.   You will be committed to providing the best opportunities for our group of learners and ensuring every child is supported to achieve their full potential.

We can offer you the benefits of working in a small, warm and friendly school to an independent school calendar with increased holidays and excellent professional training & development.

We are located in North London on two sites.  Our Lower School site is conveniently situated directly opposite Woodside Park station on the Northern line and this is where you will work most of the time.  There may be a small percentage of your timetable that takes place at our Upper School site in Muswell Hill.  We work closely with the other schools in our group, have extensive community links and believe in ‘thinking differently’ and being as creative as possible in our teaching.

A flexible approach to teaching, a willingness to get involved in all aspects of school life, and the ability to work under pressure with young people that can challenge us is essential to enable the best outcomes for our group of learners. You should have at least 2 years experience of working with learners with autism in any setting and should have QTS.  Experience of working with young people with behaviour needs or mental health needs will also be highly beneficial.

Closing date: Thursday 20th May 2021 at 9am

Interviews and teaching observations will be held at The Holmewood School (Lower school site in Woodside Park) Dates and times to be confirmed for week commencing Monday 24th May 2021.

Application details are available from Jeanette Bar, HR Administrator,  on 020 8920 0660, enquiries@thsl.org.uk or at the above address.

About The Holmewood School

The Holmewood School is a growing independent day school for neurodivergent children and young people aged from 7 to 19 who have a primary diagnosis of Autism. Our young people are broadly similar to their mainstream peers in their academic ability but require support with communication and interaction, executive functioning, anxiety, functional skills and other needs related to their diagnosis. Many of our young people also have coaccurring diagnoses, such as ADHD and dyslexia.

We were awarded an Outstanding rating by Ofsted following their visit in May 2022 and we are proud to have Advanced Accreditation Status granted by the National Autistic Society.
