Job overview

You can make a difference from wherever you are - none of the teaching-at-scale trade-off, less admin, just one person and the part of teaching you care about. We're recruiting experienced online SEND tutors, £25 - £30 per hour, for one-to-one remote sessions with vulnerable children and young people across the UK; many in areas without specialist provision, many out of school, many for whom the screen is the version of teaching that actually works.
What you get

  • Work from home: Fully remote.

  • Flexible schedule: Most placements are a few sessions a week (time-limited part-time engagements), with more hours sometimes available. Work not guaranteed; you choose your placements.

  • Tes CPD access: Unlimited Tes professional development library, plus our own SEMH-focused courses.

  • Specialist team behind you: SENDCos, Designated Safeguarding Leads, senior special-school leaders, and experienced tutors.

  • Community events: Online drop-ins, knowledge-sharing sessions, and a real tutor community.

How we work
We meet each young person where they are - engagement before attainment, child-led. We match, we don't dictate. Trauma-informed tuition that's transformative, not a gap filler - trusted by Local Authorities and schools.
Day to day

  • One-to-one online tuition in English, Maths, or Science to children aged 4-18 across the UK, referred by Local Authorities and schools.

  • Sessions typically 1-2 hours via secure video platform, usually within school hours; many run with the same learner for months.

  • Most learners have SEMH, ADHD, ASC, MLD, SLD, or other SEND needs; many are out of school or unable to access in-person tuition locally.

  • Per-session reports supported by templates and your SEND Support Specialist.

You'll need

  • Experience: 2+ years' teaching or tutoring, including substantial hands-on work with SEMH, ADHD, ASC, MLD, SLD, or other SEND needs - plus comfort delivering online.

  • Qualification: QTS or QTLS, or an equivalent specialist teaching qualification.

  • Subjects: Confidence teaching English, Maths, or Science at one or more Key Stages.

  • Safeguarding: It is a strict requirement that you have the ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

  • Tech setup: Reliable broadband, a working webcam, and a quiet space to teach.

  • Compliance: Enhanced DBS (we can help arrange this), two professional references, and UK-based with right to work in the UK.

Invoicing and payments
Paid monthly via an auto-generated invoice you approve in our tutor portal.
Applying

  • Apply in under 5 minutes via our mobile-optimised form.

  • We interview on a rolling basis and respond to successful applicants within 2 weeks.

  • Safer recruitment applies; we welcome tutors from every background and want our network to reflect the communities our learners come from.

  • Our referral / introducer scheme pays a fee to anyone who recommends a tutor who goes on to complete a first lesson.

You may have worked as
SENDCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), SEND Teacher, Special Needs Teacher, Special Needs Tutor, Online Tutor, Remote Tutor, 1:1 Tutor, Home Tutor, Alternative Provision Tutor, Intervention Specialist, classroom teacher with online experience, or Inclusion Coordinator.
Not a permanent or salaried position; you are not an employee of Targeted Provision. Self-employed, freelance contract for services.
