Job reference: ECS0000023

As part of our drive to improve services for vulnerable children and young people within the borough, Bexley has established highly successful multidisciplinary Early Intervention Teams (EITS), which work with schools. The teams contain professionals from a variety of disciplines in education and social care. Staff work closely with schools, but also undertake relevant work outside of school settings.

The focus of the teams is on early intervention, seeking to provide support to children, young people and their families, who require additional help to achieve successful educational and social outcomes, but whose needs are not severe enough for them to meet the criteria for higher threshold services. Providing support at an early stage will enable needs to be addressed, and ensure that the numbers needing higher level services will reduce over time.

The post holder will work in collaboration with other team members and schools to provide specialist advice and training to schools regarding SEN and AEN matters, particularly in terms of recent SEND legislation policy and practice. There will be a strong quality assurance element in this role to ensure consistency in identification and intervention for children with SEND across the Local Authority.

The post holder will also have a key part to play in regard to further developments in relation to the recent SEN legislation and the development of EHC plans.

  • To assist schools in the processes of monitoring and assessing the use of SEN funds delegated to them, and how this can be used to maximum effect to promote the progress and attainment of children with SEN.
  • To promote progress for children with identified SEND in Bexley and work with other colleagues and school on ensuing they attain good outcomes where possible.
  • To assist colleagues in the EIT,SEN areas and School Improvement in implementing new policy and practice in terms of SEN (Education Health Care Plans for example)

The successful candidate would need to be a qualified teacher with a significant amount of teaching experience, in a role that has required comprehensive understanding of Additional Educational Needs and Special Educational Needs.
