Purpose of the Role

To plan and deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching that meets the diverse needs of pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviours. 

About Mynydd Haf School

Mynydd Haf School provides high quality learning experiences within a small, focused nurturing environment to secondary school aged children who have an IDP/ALN Statement and have ADHD and/or express behaviours that are challenging or inappropriate in a community setting. Class sizes are small. The staff to student ratio is usually 2:4 in all classes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, evidence-informed lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils, including those with SEND and trauma histories.

  • Use assessment data to monitor pupil progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.

  • Promote pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development through trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches.

  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and learning, consistent with the school’s behaviour policy and Staff Code of Conduct.

  • Collaborate with teaching assistants and specialist staff to provide effective support

Requirements

  • Proven experience teaching pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviour

  • Strong understanding of curriculum, assessment, and behaviour management in special education settings.

  • Previous Experience Teaching Maths and/or Science 

  • QTS/QTLS qualification

  • Commitment to professional conduct, safeguarding, and the Staff Code of Conduct.

  • Ability to plan, deliver, and assess effective teaching and learning

  • Resilience, empathy, adaptability, and passion for supporting vulnerable pupils

This highly qualified team support pupils attend weekly residential activity trips in Year 11, access vocational learning experiences in KS4 in line with their needs and aspirations as well as enjoy making memories experiences, activities designed to address developmental deficits on top of Welsh Curriculum teaching and learning experiences.

All pupils have an individual education plan which is reviewed termly with pupils to ensure they remain at the heart of their education planning, this plan being supported by Keys Group specialist team comprising of an Educational Psychologist and full clinical team.


Pupils

Mynydd Haf School welcomes boys and girls aged 11-17, many of whom have additional learning needs such as BESD, ADHD, and ODD. Some pupils are returning to education after a period of absence, while others benefit from a smaller, more focused learning environment. Through our tailored approach, we help each student build the skills and confidence needed to thrive.


Areas of Expertise

The school specialises in supporting pupils with ADHD, SEMH, attachment difficulties, ODD or general behaviour challenges within social educational environments.
