The Role:
Are you passionate about supporting students with special educational needs? Lumio School is looking for an experienced SEN Specialist Teacher who can contribute to our inclusive learning environment. You will work closely with colleagues, school leaders, and external partners to ensure every student achieves their potential.
We are specifically seeking individuals with expertise in areas such as:
- Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH): Professionals who can support students dealing with trauma, attachment challenges, or behavioural needs using restorative practices.
- Cognition and Learning: Teachers with experience in literacy accessibility, Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), or a strong understanding of strategies to enhance learning across all age groups.
Key Responsibilities:
- Offer exceptional and tailored assistance to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), covering areas such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), complex needs, challenges in speech, language and communication (SLCN), Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) such as dyslexia, as well as Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties.
- Monitor, evaluate, and report on student progress, adapting strategies to meet diverse needs.
- Work collaboratively to develop and implement school-wide improvement initiatives.
- Create tailored learning plans, including Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs), and other personalised strategies.
- Plan and organise classroom setups and resources to foster stimulating and inclusive learning environments.
- Lead risk-aware planning for both on-site and off-site activities, ensuring student safety.
- Provide training and guidance for support staff to enhance learning resources and teaching aids.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A minimum of three years’ experience in SEN-related roles or as a SENCO, with proven expertise in inclusive teaching.
- A comprehensive understanding of SEN frameworks, the National Curriculum, and current educational standards.
- Successful experience in improving student outcomes and fostering inclusive environments in both mainstream and specialist settings.
- Strong collaborative skills to work effectively with colleagues, families, and external partners.
