Join our dedicated SEND team and help transform educational experiences for our most vulnerable learners. As a SEND teacher, you’ll play a key role in providing tailored learning experiences, supporting students’ personal development, and ensuring they achieve their potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Role Overview:

As a SEND Teacher, you will be responsible for teaching and supporting students with a wide range of learning differences. You will provide high-quality, personalised teaching that enables all pupils to make progress in line with their individual learning targets, ensuring they receive the appropriate interventions and support to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning:

  • Curriculum Design and Delivery: Develop and deliver engaging, differentiated curriculum materials and lesson plans for students with mild to moderate special educational needs. Tailor lessons to meet the individual needs of each student based on their strengths, challenges, and learning preferences.
  • Individualised Learning Plans: Provide high-quality teaching that aligns with the pupils’ Learning Plans or Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) to ensure students progress in accordance with their personal targets.
  • Assessment and Reporting: Assess, mark, and report on pupils’ work regularly. Provide constructive feedback with clear, actionable targets for improvement to support student progress. Monitor and track progress through the use of data and assessments.
  • Progress Tracking: Maintain detailed, up-to-date records to track and monitor pupil progress over time, using various forms of data and assessment information to inform teaching practices.
  • Collaboration with SENCO: Work closely with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to develop effective provision mapping, ensuring that appropriate interventions and strategies are in place for all students.

Pastoral Care:

  • Parental Engagement: Serve as the primary point of contact for parents regarding their child’s learning, achievements, and any challenges they may be facing. Maintain open, transparent communication to ensure families are fully involved in their child’s education.
  • Parent Meetings and Reports: Conduct regular parent meetings and complete written reports to keep families informed of their child’s progress. Offer suggestions for further support at home and discuss next steps in the child’s educational journey.
  • Behavioural Expectations: Set high expectations for pupils’ behaviour, learning, and motivation, ensuring that each child is encouraged and supported to succeed in a safe, respectful environment.
  • Safeguarding and Welfare: Promote and safeguard the welfare of all children in your care, adhering to all safeguarding procedures and policies to ensure the safety and well-being of every student.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): A recognised teaching qualification with current certification to teach in the relevant education sector (e.g., primary or secondary).
  • Experience in SEND: Previous experience working with SEND students in an educational setting, with a solid understanding of how to meet the diverse learning needs of students with various SEND conditions.
  • Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice: Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant statutory requirements, ensuring compliance with the legal framework.
  • Graduated Approach to SEN Support: Experience in implementing the graduated approach to SEND support, including identification, assessment, provision, and review of support for students.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent communication skills for working with students, parents, and external agencies. The ability to effectively collaborate with teaching assistants and support staff is also essential.
  • Adaptability and Creativity: Ability to develop and implement creative teaching strategies and interventions to support the learning and development of SEND students in an inclusive setting.
