Job overview

This is a great opportunity to join Malvern College part of Options Autism as a SEN Teacher.  Through your knowledge and passion, you will have a real impact on the lives of our young people. Taking responsibility for their learning, you will motivate them, inspire them and help them develop the skills they need for an incredible future.

Options Malvern College is an exciting new venture that will be opening near Hanley Castle, Worcester. Working in partnership with the Outcomes First Group and Options Autism, the College will provide a Further Education experience for those aged 16 to 24year-olds with autism, complex needs and learning disabilities.

The main aim of the College is to help its students prepare for adulthood and their next stage in life. In a new purpose-built building, situated in acres of natural beauty, Malvern College will provide a varied, individualised curriculum to enable its students to gain vocational and independence skills to help them achieve their aspirations.

Our staff will work together as a cohesive team, to provide the very best experience for the students which will include practical activities, Maths, English and Digital Literacy. The curriculum will have a focus on individual targets, personal skills and enrichment which will include The Duke of Edinburgh Award. Some students will also take part in supported work experience, social enterprise programmes, and volunteering.

The role

As a dynamic and motivated SEN Teacher, you already have a passion for making a difference in the lives of children and young people. In this role, you will have every opportunity to live up to this ambition, responding to the needs of individuals with autism, learning difficulties and complex needs, helping them flourish and thrive.

You will plan and deliver engaging learning on a daily basis, developing exciting and innovative methods that stimulate interest and excitement in the classroom. Working as a SEN Teacher with us is not your average teaching role.

At Options Autism, you are able to work creatively, making the most of all the extensive resources and expert support we have available. Our class sizes are small, so you are able to create a nurturing learning environment designed around each individual’s needs, spending quality time with each pupil. You will observe, monitor and assess them, making sure their personal development and wellbeing are as important as the academic curriculum.

As a Practical Skills SEN Teacher you will be responsible for developing the practical skills curriculum which could include but is not exclusive to Horticulture, Arts and Crafts and Practical Projects. The college has a purpose built practical skills learning environment, both inside and outside as well as being based in an area of natural beauty. We would like to develop a flexible curriculum that is based on students, needs, aspirations and life goals, offering accreditation in these areas if appropriate.

Who we are looking for

You will be a passionate tutor and a great communicator, as comfortable talking to young adults with autism, learning difficulties and complex needs as you are with contributing to the college’s vision and direction. Our schools and colleges are unique environments, each one having its own special atmosphere and range of opportunities and resources.

Our Tutors enjoy becoming part of their college ‘family’, exploring the potential of the building and environment and getting to know the brilliant young people in our care. You will enjoy building these caring relationships as well as liaising with fellow professionals, whether they are colleagues in the same school or they work in the children’s previous educational establishments.

You will have experience in delivering practical skills courses (including but not exclusive to Horticulture, Arts and Crafts and Handicraft).
