Join Our Outstanding Team at Sherborne Qatar

Sherborne Qatar, a prestigious British school in Doha, is seeking a passionate and experienced SEN Teacher to join our dynamic team. As a member of Qatar’s Supreme Education Council’s Outstanding Schools Programme, we take pride in our commitment to academic excellence and character development. Our affiliation with the historic Sherborne School in the UK, founded in 1550, ensures a legacy of high-quality education and holistic student growth.

About Us

At Sherborne Qatar, we prioritize academic success, small class sizes, exceptional pastoral care, and an extensive extracurricular programme to develop well-rounded, high-achieving pupils. We are committed to fostering creativity, communication, curiosity, independence, risk-taking, and resilience in our students.

The Role

Sherborne Qatar is seeking an outstanding SEN Teacher with a strong commitment to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The successful candidate will deliver high-quality, challenging, and differentiated learning experiences that enable pupils to reach their full potential across all areas of development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils with SEND, using a range of specialised strategies including TEACCH, Sensory Integration, PECS, and Assistive Technology.
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, maintaining accurate records and setting personalised targets in line with school policies.
  • Create a stimulating and supportive classroom environment that fosters independence, communication, and self-esteem.
  • Work collaboratively with therapists, specialists, and families to ensure pupils receive tailored support.
  • Lead and manage support staff within the classroom effectively.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, subject leadership (where applicable), and whole-school improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, school events, and the wider co-curricular life of the school.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:
  • A certified teaching qualification (B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE or equivalent) and QTS.
  • At least 2 years’ experience teaching pupils with SEND in a school setting.
  • Evidence of outstanding classroom practice and a child-centred approach.
  • Strong knowledge of the English National Curriculum and/or EYFS.
  • Experience with SEND teaching approaches (e.g. PECS, Makaton, AAC devices).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, equality, and the ethos of Sherborne Qatar.

Desirable:
  • Additional specialist qualification (e.g. Masters in SEND).
  • Experience of subject leadership and curriculum development.
  • Training in Team Teach and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Experience using Read Write Inc, Talk 4 Writing, or White Rose Maths.

This position is available for an immediate start. Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and strong candidates may be interviewed without delay. Early application is recommended.

Please note: Due to Qatar’s work visa regulations, applicants must be under the age of 50.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

Sherborne Qatar is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All staff must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). In accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance, an online search will be conducted as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates.

Sherborne Qatar Schools form a truly international community, welcoming pupils from over 60 nationalities across our campuses. As leading British independent schools in the Middle East, we are committed to delivering educational excellence through a holistic approach that values outstanding pastoral care alongside strong academic achievement.

Our strength lies in our exceptional teachers, high-quality pastoral support, extensive enrichment opportunities, and a warm, inclusive, family-orientated culture. We pride ourselves on knowing our pupils as individuals and supporting them to grow both academically and personally within a nurturing environment.

As part of the wider Sherborne family, our schools benefit from a close relationship with our historic and prestigious partner school in England. Together, we share a commitment to providing the very best of British independent education while embracing the diversity and ambition of our international setting in Qatar.

Qatar is a dynamic and forward-thinking country, and we seek to nurture these same qualities in our pupils. We encourage learners to take responsibility for their own progress, to think critically, and to develop curiosity, resilience and a lifelong passion for learning. Our philosophy of “Education for Life” focuses on developing reflective, adaptable and confident young people who are prepared for the future.

Across Sherborne Qatar Schools, we aim to cultivate well-educated, well-rounded individuals who hold high aspirations and achieve their full potential within a happy and supportive school environment. At the heart of everything we do are our core values of Respect, Honesty, Kindness, Perseverance, Responsibility and Teamwork — values that guide our actions, shape our community and reflect our shared ethos with Sherborne Dorset.

We encourage pupils to become positive role models, embrace leadership opportunities and explore a wide range of interests through our rich extracurricular programmes. While standards and expectations for learning and behaviour remain high, we believe pupils should be challenged in a supportive environment that promotes wellbeing rather than pressure.

Strong partnerships between home and school are central to our success. By working closely with families, built on mutual trust and respect, we create the best conditions for children to flourish, achieve their potential and feel happy and secure in school.

Above all, Sherborne Qatar Schools are caring, inclusive and supportive communities where every child is valued and inspired to succeed.
